THE PROBLEM

This chapter presents the Background of the Study, Conceptual Framework,

Statement of the Problem, Significance of the Study, Scope and Limitation, and

Definition of Terms.

Rationale and Background of the Study

A graduate is a person who has received a degree or diploma on completing a

course of study as in an institution. (Dictionary. com) Being a high school graduate

means a person can go to a higher form of education or college. After they graduate from

their high school, what happens to them afterwards is rarely monitored by their high

school Alma Mater.

Tracer study or graduate survey is a survey (in written or oral form) of graduates

from educational institutions. (Schomburg, 2016) Tracer study is a method which is

primarily intended to locate graduates of their academic institution in order to collect data

and update information about their present statuses. Graduate surveys provide rich

experience about the whereabouts of graduates, which might help to broaden perspective

among administrators, faculty and students. It is likewise a regulating document

efficiency and support on the demographic profile of the school that can be measured

through the quality of graduates.

For the past 62 years, Saint Joseph Academy (SJA) has provided high-quality of

education and produced numerous globally-competitive individuals. However, due to this

large quantity of graduates, information about the whereabouts of graduates are limited

and beyond the school’s grasp. SJA lacks documentation on the graduate and alumni

profile, hence this tracer study.

In an effort to trace and track the possible earliest graduates of Saint Joseph

Academy, the researchers will conduct a tracer study on the 1961 to 1970 high school

graduates of the aforementioned institution.

In this study, the researchers will determine the condition of the graduates through

learning their personal, educational and employment backgrounds.

school will be able recognize its academic hardships and hold record of the graduates’

profile for future uses.

Administration. That they may keep in touch with and foster relationship and

partnership with its former graduates.
