Subject: BAP-101: Introduction to Architectural Design – I

Major Project: IGDTUW HANGOUT SPACE (Two Months)

Objective of the Assignment

The main objective of the assignment is to develop the understanding of observation and
research and analysis in a design project. The students would be working individually to
design a Hangout Space in the premises of IGDTUW campus as a University. The student
must be able to identify a suitable location for the Hangout Space. The design must
incorporate an open Hangout Space for all user groups in the University viz; students, faculty,
staff etc. The design should be interactive, functional and incorporate only seating spaces.
Support facilities like kitchen and toilets maybe assumed to be used as already present in the
University. The effort should be in lieu with enhancing the image of the University and
functionality of the Hangout space on the whole.

The Assignment
The students would make a separate portfolio comprising of A2 Sheets only at the end of the
semester. The Major project is divided into various stages and every stage has an assignment
submission date. You are required to preplan your work and submit on time. A tentative
work-plan with intermediate dates for submission is overleaf. You are expected to place your
portfolio in a hardbound folder at home, to be submitted as compiled in college on the date of
portfolio submission. Please bring your model on the date of submission only and for external
jury in December. No Submissions and models will be stored in college.

THE MAXIMUM MARKS FOR THE ASSIGNMENT IS 300

The parameters for marking the portfolio:
1. Regular class discussions and progress
2. Presentation style and neatness
3. Quantum of work as per time for work planned
4. Drafting skills and lettering
