This is a very basic guide (more of a prompt for me!

) on how to create an intelligent border to be

used within AutoCAD Electrical

1. Create a desired border/frame design (regular DWG format) and edit accordingly.

2. Add attributes as required (ATTDEF). Position as needed within border (do not worry about the
‘Prompt’ option – this is not used once locked into the border).

3. Select ‘Drawing Properties’ from tool bar…

Most tabs/details should be correct - preferred drawing styles should be set as below.

Select ‘Drawing Format’ from the top tabs, then SETUP.

Enter details as shown (will vary depending on border design).

Select OK until you return to the main drawing.

Now select ‘Title Block Setup’ (PROJECTS) >>>

Select METHOD 2
The following attributes will vary with each border (the following is an example of the NPCC border I
created for Atlas Copco) – It helps to print off the border with attributes in place before entering the
following data. These are defined as PROJECT variables and are globally common throughout all
drawings of the selected project (i.e. you define them once for the project).

The following attributes are DRAWING specific & can be changed per sheet (page no/description
etc.)

When all attributes are entered, select OK to return to the main drawing.
PURGE ALL UNWANTED BLOCKS FROM DRAWING!!

CHECK DWG PROPERTIES (Snap to grid/Ortho etc.)

Need to now create a block using the created attributes and graphics. Type the BLOCK instruction
(at the command prompt) and create the block.

Give the block a suitable name (relating to the border details) and ‘Select Objects’. Type ALL at the
command prompt (select objects: ALL) and press ENTER until the above box appears again and select
OK.

When happy, save the DWG as a template file (.dwt) – the title block is now intelligent! If any
changes are required, you will need to EXPLODE the block and repeat the steps above and re-block it
up again.

Use the template file within the project setup and all borders should work correctly.
