Nowadays many of us depend with the use of internet in businesses, home,

work, school and many other purposes. Many of the people who use internet are not
aware of the risk or threats that they might encounter in improper using of the internet.
Cybercriminals are just there, every time you browse in the internet and they are just
waiting to have an access to your files. If you don’t have enough security of knowledge
to avoid these things you will probably become their target. Victims of cybercrimes are
to those people who have lack of understanding about these matters and those
businesses and organization that lacks security in their system.

One of the greatest cybercrime happened is the Russian based hackers have
stolen £650 million from banks, British banks are thought to have lost tens of millions
of pounds after a gang of Russian based hackers spent the last two years orchestrating
the largest cybercrime ever uncovered. As much as £650 million is thought to have
gone missing after the gang used computer viruses to infect networks in more than 100
financial institutions worldwide. The hackers managed to infiltrate the bank’s internal
computer systems using malware, which lurked in the networks for months, gathering
information and feeding it back to the gang. The illegal software was so sophisticated
that it allowed the criminals to view video feeds from within supposedly secure offices
as they gathered the data they needed to steal. Once they were ready to strike, they
were able to impersonate bank staff online in order to transfer millions of pounds into
dummy accounts.

For me it is a big destruction and loss to the bank because the amount stolen
from them is very big. From that the people or their client must have lost their trust to
the bank. It would be hard for the bank to recover since the amount is very big and they
might lose their clients with just what happened.

Second is the Mafiaboy, Michael Demon Calce from West Island, Quebec is just
an ordinary 15-year-old, but in the cyberspace; he is very famous as ‘MafiaBoy.’ He
gained notoriety in the year 2000 for hacking companies with high-level of securities,
which include computer giant Dell, Yahoo, Fifa.com, Amazon, Ebay and CNN with
estimated damages of $1.2 billion dollars, not including his attacks in 9 out of 13 root
name servers. However, he only received eight months of ‘open custody,’ one year of
probation, a small fine and restricted use of internet by the Montreal Youth Court.

In my opinion even in his young age he was able to hack huge companies with
high-level of securities. Base from that he can hack more huge organizations and cost
more destruction even if they have a tight security given the fact that security upgrades,
the hackers/crackers also upgrades.

Third is the Heartbleed (2012-2014), Heartbleed wasn’t a virus it was a bug that
got mistakenly written into OpenSSL. This allowed hackers to create a gateway into
databases. It’s argued that it is the biggest attack in history with some reports
suggesting it affected nearly 17% of all websites. It allowed hackers to gain access to
private conversations without the users knowing as they planted a gateway in the
system to have access at any time. The bug had gone almost two years before it got
discovered before it finally got detected in 2014 by Google Security.

For me even if the mistake is just simple, the hackers would still find a way on
how to breach some important information’s that they could use in their criminals
activities. It’s better to be careful on what we do because it might bring us a bigger
problem in the future.

According to The Cambridge English Dictionary cyber crimes are the crimes
committed with the use of computers or relating to computers, especially through the
internet. Crimes which involve use of information or usage of electronic means in
furtherance of crime are covered under the ambit of cyber crime. Cyber space crimes
may be committed against persons, property, government and society at large.
