0.1 mm radial interference between Plastic housing and Steel shaft.

• Calculate the contact pressure / force due to interference fit at initial time.
• Calculate the relaxation in the contact pressure / force after 1000 hrs due to creeping of the plastic
material considering Secondary creep using Norton creep law.

Plastic
Meshing and Boundary Condition: Material Properties.
Steel with E= 200e3MPa, nu = 0.3
Plastic is expected to stay within yield limit.

Course mesh is used in the example to demonstrate the

procedure.
A fine mesh may be required in actual model to properly
capture the circular surface of the shaft and housing and
accurately contact pressure due to interference. Norton Secondary Creep Model

C3 Actual material constant for creep law need
cr  C1 C2 e T
to be determined from test data.
OD of the housing is fixed.
One end face of the shaft is constrained in Y-direction. Note : In this problem, C3=0. This means that there is no temperature
dependency. Creep strain rate is based only on stress.
