You are on page 1of 1

The main points from this module are:

The ribbon the replacement for menus and tool bars in older versions of Microsoft Excel, was designed to place the
options you need in plain view.

The Ribbon can be interacted with using Keyboard shortcuts.

In the file tab on the ribbon you’ll find the backstage which is where you save, open and print your documents. The
backstage also is where you can change MS Excel setting, view the documents properties and information, set
permissions and more.

Formulas have their own tab on the ribbon however you do not need to use it to create a formula in Excel you can
click on a cell and type in your formula or click on the formula bar under the ribbon and enter your formula.

Some commands on the ribbon only appear when you need them, in response to an action you have taken.

The quick access tool bar is place for command you use all the time, the tool bar is available no matter which tab
you are in, you can also customise it to hold what command you want.

Compatibility mode in Excel will track anything you do in a new version that isn’t available in an old version of Excel
and then alert you about any differences when you save your changes. So if you open an older Excel file in 2010,
and you add features unique to 2010 those feature won’t work when you open the file in a previous version of Excel.
