    Attitudes towards women in the Russian Orthodox Church are connected with its

    interpretation of the New Testament. Within those interpretations, Jesus Christ never

    denounced the patriarchal family structure, but, on the contrary, emphasized the need

    for a hierarchical order, with a man acting as the head of the household.
