Education is one of the most important thing a person can have. But, what must be
the characteristic of an educated person, or specially an educated Filipino?
According to Francisco Benitez an educated Filipino must have the power to do,
to support himself, can contribute to the wealth of our people and acquiantance with
the world's progress. Being an educated Filipino, he must set his mind that the
progress he's been dreaming of, must not just for himself but also for the country.
Because I believe that an educated Filipino, he knows what our country has been
going through. If our economic status is on progress or not. Also Francisco Benitez
wrote that an educated Filipino must have love for our tradition, and have refined
manners and moral conduct. As for this generation, most of the people specially the
millenials do not have the love a Filipino must have to his tradition and ideals,
because as a millenial, we have been influenced by the tradition of foreign countries.
Americans and Koreans are one of the example a millenial is imitating. Through
social media you can notice that most of our fellow Filipino love the traditions, ideals,
and most of all the language of foreign countries. Some are dying to learn Korean
language. Definitely I agree to Francisco Benitez to what must be the characteristic of
an educated Filipino.
For me, as a student, I believe that an educated Filipino must not just think what is
good for his own, but also what is good for others. He must have sympathy for those
who didn't have the opportunity to study. He must share the knowledge he gained in
school. In this case even though they did not experienced going to school, at least they
will experience what it feels like to have a teacher, and the opportunity to learn. Also,
for me an educated Filipino must not boast his achievements to others. He must be
humble and respectful to other people.
Since social media has been one of the most fundamental tool of commumication,
I believe, an educated person can use this tool to voice out what he thinks a single
person can contribute for the progress of our country. Also he can use this tool to post
and inspire students to study well.
Lastly, an educated Filipino must not use his knowledge and achievements for the
benefit of other country, but he must consider first what our country can benefit to
him. He must put his service to our country. He can work for the government or any
kind of work here in the Philippines where he can put his service and knowledge for
the benefit of our country.
I believe that being an educated Filipino he must be humble, have sympathy,
respect, and most of all he is able and willing to put his service to our country.
Otherwise, he isn't worthy to be called an educated Filipino.
