Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL/EFL) to adult international military personnel,
utilizing the American Language Course (ALC), a comprehensive, multilevel program developed
to provide a language curriculum for an extremely diverse international military population.

 Utilized not only general English, but also military topics highlighting language usage and
expressions military personnel typically use and encounter.
 Coordinated and carried out instructional activity based on a written lesson plan and a unique plan
of instruction (POI) that I prepared weekly for each course.
 Evaluated student performance. Ensured instruction effectiveness by assigning /reviewing daily
homework and monitoring student learning center, library, lab, testing and other activities.
 Closely monitored student tardiness & absences; maintained computerized and paper academic
records.

SELECTED ACHIEVEMENTS

 Served as director of Instituto Cultural Peruano Norteamericano (ICPNA), in Trujillo, Peru, a school
funded by the US and Peruvian governments to teach English as a foreign language. Hired, trained
and supervised 12-15 EFL instructors, developed and modified 12 levels of Eng. language courses and,
at various times, taught each of the adult courses offered from Beginning English to Advanced
Conversation. The emphasis in those courses was on syntax, pronunciation and grammar. The more
advanced courses were often taught to adults seeking college scholarships or grants to study in the US.

 On a number of occasions have made professional recommendations for improvement of curriculum


design, training materials, classroom delivery and program management.

 With supervisory concurrence, have modified and augmented instructional materials by creating
supplemental exercises and activities and by expanding my own plan of instruction or lesson plan.

 On my own initiative, with supervisory approval, I have tailored or adjusted course materials by
integrating current audio, video and computer software delivery systems to support educationally
sound and accepted techniques of ESL/EFL instruction.

 In business, I led an international sales force for an $800 million financial company. Trained sales
managers and supervised the business development activities of 3000 sales professionals in Central
and South America, Taiwan and Indonesia. Prepared and delivered motivational presentations in
Spanish and/or English to large audiences on multiple topics. RESULTS: Led sales force to a $5
million increase in production, setting a new 12-month corporate sales record.
