PERFORMING A TDS RTK SURVEY

(with Sokkia GSR2200/2300 Receivers)

JOB SETUP

Note: The following assumes that you will be setting up over a known UTM
NAD83 Geodetic Control Pt / or entering an “autonomous” UTM NAD83
position from your handheld GPS or Base Receiver as a “known” base
position to be adjusted later.

CONTROLLER- Do the following prior to connecting to the Base.

1. FILE / OPEN/NEW – Create a New Job. BROWSE Ex: C:\

RTKJOB
Enter BASE Coords and set the desired settings on the next 2 screens.
OK

2. JOB / SETTINGS - Review ALL Job settings. Be sure to set the

following: Reciever Brand = Ashtech, Model = Z12, GPS Mode = RTK
Projection Horizontal = Mapping Plane, Vertical = Localization
+Geoid Model

3. JOB / EDIT POINTS - Enter the coordinates of the Base Sta (if not
entered in step 1) and any other “Known” points to be used . (for
localization or checks etc)
Close

4. JOB / FILES Select any desired Control, Description or Feature

Files to be used.

Note: Top of Screen Shows Current Job.

SET UP BASE STATION (as shown below)

After everything is plugged in and hooked up etc.

-Turn on Base Reciever and allow it to initialize for at least 5 min before
turning the Base Radio on. Check for blinking TX light on radio.

Note: Do NOT turn Recievers or Radios ON without antennaes

connected.

-Connect the TDS RANGER to Port #1 on the Base Reciever.

SURVEY / PROJECTION / Horizontal / Select Zone Set as
follows: Zone Group = UTM, Zone = Zone 12 North etc. Hz Datum =
NAD83
SURVEY / PROJECTION / Verticall / Select Geoid Model
Set as follows: GSD HT 1.01
SURVEY / GPS STATUS check for Radio Reception and Position Quality
under Data Link
SURVEY / BASE SETUP / Setup…
Select previously entered Base Pt from drop down and Chose from List,
enter measured Slant Ht and Radius for Base GPS Antenna
NEXT > Check displayed Base Coords and Elev against known values.
If OK then select SET . Your BASE is now set ready for survey.

SETUP ROVER (as shown below)

-Connect controller to receiver “A”

-SURVEY / GPS STATUS
-Check for radio link and wait for initialization
-SURVEY / DATA COLLECTION
-Point
-Feature (continuous topo etc.)

- JOB / SETTINGS / Post Process

-Set Recording Interval to desired value.

Logging device: TDS Rangerr

Logging Interval: 30s works good

IMP! Make sure you enter proper antenna height!!

IMP! When performing any RTK Survey check into a known point
after the base station and rover are running to verify setup is okay!!
