Durability Condition

1. Exposure criteria adopted – Severe as per

table 14.1 of IRC 112 for superstructure
2. High Humidity RH > 80% Stability checks
3. No risk of carbonation exposure
4. Reduced risk of airborne Chloride
exposure due to High Humidity
5. Foundations checked for Extreme
exposure conditions

Ø The stress check has been done for both construction stages and for
SLS load combinations.
Ø Maximum compressive stress of 13.9 MPa, in SLS-RC-LL-A-1 (Rare)
combination, is less than 24 MPa (0.48fck) as per Cl.12.2.1 (1) of
IRC: 112-2011.
Ø Maximum compressive stress of 12.5 MPa, in SLS-QC-1 (Quasi-
Permanent) Combination, is less than 18 MPa (0.36fck) as per
Cl.12.2.1 (2) of IRC: 112-2011. Longitudinal Design – ULS Checks
Ø Maximum tensile stress is 2.72 MPa in SLS-RC-LL-A-7 (Rare)
combination, is less than fctm, (3.5 MPa for M50) Mean axial tensile
strength of concrete. Hence the crosssection is un-cracked as per Cl
12.1 (2) of IRC 112-2011.
Ø There is no tensile stress in both top and bottom fibre under Quasi-
Permanent combination. Hence decompression limit check is
ensured as per Table 12.1, Note 3 of IRC 112-2011 for severe
exposure.

Ø Ultimate Flexural Capacities have been checks as

defined for Prestressed Concrete .
Ø Design for Shear and Torsion in all the walls of
the Box carried out as per the Provisions of
Transverse Design
designs for sections with shear reinforcement.
Ø Combination of the design requirements for
Shear in the web with that for Transverse
bending to arrive at the total reinforcement
requirements in the webs.
