Common and Proper Nouns Worksheet

I) Read each sentence. Then, underline each common noun once and each proper noun
twice.
1- Grandma looked tired and sad as she left the train.
2- The conductor announced Maizon’s train in a loud voice, but Maizon really wasn’t paying
attention.
3- Margaret saw the tears in her eyes.
4- Margaret asks her mother about the difference between a old friend a best friend.
5- Maizon goes away to boarding school in Connecticut.
6- Margaret reads her poem about her father and her best friend to Ms. Peale and the sixth-grade
class.
7- Margaret finds out that Hattie never liked Maizon because she didn’t hae common sense and she
didn’t tell the truth.
8- Margaret’s mother is a talented artist who wants to be an architect.
9- Maizon must not hae much time to write letters, or perhaps she has a new best friend.
10-Margaret is mourning both the death of her father and the departure of her best friend.

II) Rewrite the sentences by changing each of the common nouns to proper nouns. You
may have to change the wording of the sentence slightly. Be sure to capitalize proper
nouns correctly.
