PUBLIC TRANSPORT PLAN


 In fact, in the New Town Development Plan there are
provisions for gradual, efficient and incremental
development of the different transit systems including the
proposed extension of the Metro Line in the North-South
and East-West direction as well as water transport
through Krishnapur Canal.
 The Para-Transit modes, like taxis, auto rickshaws, cycle
rickshaws etc. are also under consideration since the same
are performing important roles in the transit scene of
Kolkata at foresuit though their routes and operational
arrangement might be concentrated at a particular
location.
 Other transport facilities, like freight transport, road
corridor for good movements, truck terminals inclusive of
wholesale trading centers with easy availabilities of
delivery mechanism have also been effectively considered
in planning of the project. However, the goods
movements through roads within the Metropolis along
with their origin or destinations are shown in at the
following:
i) Kolkata Port Area.
ii) Railway Goods Transit and Sidings.
iii) Wholesale Trading Centres.
iv) Retail Trading Centres of Markets.
v) Factories and Manufacturing Units.
vi) Centres of Major New Projects and Construction

All these major centres are well connected with the
New Town and at the same time does not create any
unnecessary conflict with other modes of traffic.
