"Lego Block Method" Cheat Sheet

Complete Step-by-Step Process

A. Left Hand Barebones

1. Synthesia - Find 4 Chords Look at the notes in the left hand and figure out which chord they match up with
2. Synthesia - Find the Key Which key contains those 4 chords? (use the "Chords in Keys" cheat sheet!)
3. Find the Formula for C How many notes up or down to get from the key to the note C?
4. Find the Chords for C Use the formula to transpose the four chords you found in Step 1 to C
5. "Guitar Chords" Look up the chords on Google and transpose so your Step 4 chords match up

B. Right Hand Barebones

1. Remember the Formula Just take the formula from step 3!
2. Find Possible Notes If you transposed to C, this is all the white notes. Otherwise use Major Scales Cheat Sheet
3. Transpose Melody Use the formula to transpose Synthesia melody notes.

C. Spice up Left Hand (lego blocks)

1. Choose pattern(s) Choose one or more left hand patters to integrate into the song

D. Spice up Right Hand (optional)

1. Octave Transposition You can play the melody up or down an octave (or multiple octaves)
2. Choose Patterns Try playing in octaves, or using chord tones below the note or rolled chords
3. Add Flares Add in quick arpeggio flares, or octave flares when you have space between notes

E. Add in Transitions/intros/outros (optional)

Notes:
1. If you're a beginner, just focus on learning ONE block at a time: start with a left hand pattern
2. The first time you complete this process, it may seem confusing. But stick with it, it's much easier the 2nd and 3rd time
3. Remember to keep practicing either sightreading or playing ear, even if you're learning songs using this method
4. When learning the melody, once you get the starting note, try to learn a lot of it by ear!
5. The more you use this method, the more you'll start to get used to chords and keys, and the faster you'll be able to do it
