Sensation and perception are two separate processes that are very closely related. Sensation is input
about the physical world obtained by our sensory receptors, and perception is the process by which the
brain selects, organizes, and interprets these sensations. In other words, senses are the physiological
basis of perception. Perception of the same senses may vary from one person to another because each
person’s brain interprets stimuli differently based on that individual’s learning, memory, emotions, and
expectations.

The word sound refers to a sensation caused in the ear by the vibration of the surrounding air or other
medium. Anything that may be heard is often referred to by the word sound.
On the other hand the word voice refers to the faculty of speech in the humans. It is the
sound produced in a person's larynx and uttered through the mouth, as speech or song.
To make it more simple, voice refers to a human utterance, whilst sound can come from any source,
slamming a door, breaking a vase, clapping your hands together.
Voice (or vocalization) is the sound produced by humans and other vertebrates using the lungs and the
vocal folds in the larynx, or voice box. Voice is not always produced as speech, however. Infants babble
and coo; animals bark, moo, whinny, growl, and meow; and adult humans laugh, sing, and cry. Voice is
generated by airflow from the lungs as the vocal folds are brought close together. When air is
pushed past the vocal folds with sufficient pressure, the vocal folds vibrate. If the vocal folds in the larynx
did not vibrate normally, speech could only be produced as a whisper. Your voice is as unique as your
fingerprint. It helps define your personality, mood, and health.

Listening - is to give attention to sound or action. Music- art concerned with combining vocal or
instrumental sounds for beauty of form or emotional expression. Performance is an act of staging or
presenting a play, concert, or other form of entertainment.
In Eidsheim's theory, music consists of aural, tactile, spatial, physical, material, and vibrational
sensations. This expanded definition of music as manifested through material and personal relations
suggests that we are all connected to each other in and through sound. Sensing Sound will appeal to
readers interested in sound studies, new musicology, contemporary opera, and performance studies.
