Governance is important as it is one of the key factors in building a quality and accessible

healthcare system in a certain population. The main goal of governance is to make decisions,
policies and objectives to achieve universal health coverage by means of collaborating with
other sectors.  Good governance could enable policy makers to prioritize solutions for problems
regarding health, replicate examples of good health practice and implement strategic plans. It
should embody values such as equity and transparency within the political system in which a
health system functions. Another aspect of governance in the clinical side should include caring
for patients, providing pharmaceutical needs, managing clinical practices and administration.
The people and sectors that are working together in order to achieve these things must ensure
that healthcare organizations achieve their business goals, ensure quality of services and
manage resources well. Healthcare organizations are also expected to cooperate as well as the
citizens. So in conclusion, governance is a major factor towards achieving universal healthcare
as well as improving quality, efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness of health systems.

The importance of the key sectors in the industry is that they provide quality health services to
meet the healthcare needs of the people. The key sectors in the healthcare industry are:
hospitals; which play a very important role in the health industry as it provide medical,
diagnostic, and treatment services to inpatients and some outpatient services, facilities
including nursing and residential care that admits patients who need long-term and supervised
treatment, ambulatory healthcare services, medical and diagnostic laboratories. Also, medical
companies which supply the medical products, medical insurance that became a primary
support for most of the patients that need treatments that involve huge expenses, and lastly,
pharmaceutical industries that focuses on developing and manufacturing drugs for the use as
medication. So with the collaboration these sectors, we can achieve a quality and accessible
healthcare system.
Among all the factors, what do you think affects the healthcare system the most?
For me, the environmental healthcare system factor affects the most. Nowadays, I observed
that patients neglect their freedom of choosing healthcare settings or providers because they
tend to choose the most practical and affordable option knowing that they don’t have the
financial capacity of choosing what’s best for them. As a result, they may lose the chance to
be treated with a quality service and environment. This is one of the major factors that affect
our healthcare system.

Why is improving healthcare through quality improvement important?

Because having a quality healthcare results to patient satisfaction due to quality service process
and customer and service provider interactions. It can also result to healthcare organizations’
productivity and profitability hence; it is directly related to the service delivery approach, level
of patient satisfaction, efficiency and outcome. Quality improvement strives to enable an
organization to achieve the ideal critical pathway, which is one that allows the healthcare team
and patient to interact productively and efficiently to achieve optimal health outcomes. It is
also a process wherein a team harnesses the knowledge, skills, experience, and perspectives of
different individuals within the team to make lasting improvements. There are a lot of benefits
in improving the healthcare system because it won’t just benefit the patients but also the
health professionals, organizations, and the environment. Overall improving the quality and
performance in the healthcare environment can help providers with reliable, cost-effective and
sustained healthcare processes and enable them to achieve their goal of improving care
delivery and enhancing patient outcomes.

What can you say about the current healthcare system of our country?
The healthcare system of the Philippines is poor because majority of the healthcare providers
are only focusing to patients with financial capacities, well, this doesn’t apply to all but for
some. And also, we have a corrupt government that instead of improving and providing funds
to our healthcare system, are just hiding those funds in their pockets. With that, our
healthcare system lacks quality, efficiency and effectiveness.
