Manual.
Please fulfill the safety regulations set forth in the Section 2.
4.2. DIESEL-ELECTRIC SET HANDLING
The diesel-electric set, packed up in the Manufacturers package, may be lifted or carefully pulled/pushed
with fork loader or other hoisting mechanism.
When the fork loader is used to handle the diesel-electric set without package, insert wooden planks between
the loader fork and the frame to distribute load and prevent the diesel-electric set damaging.

ATTENTION!
 NEVER LIFT THE DIESEL-ELECTRIC SET BY THE ENGINE OR GENERATOR
LIFTING EYES.
 MAKE SURE THAT THE HOISTING MECHANISM HAS SUFFICIENT HOISTING
CAPACITY AND IS IN A GOOD REPAIR.
 KEEP THE PERSONNEL SOMEWHAT AWAY FROM THE DIESEL-ELECTRIC SET,
WHEN IT IS LIFTED.

To lift the diesel-electric set without package, use the lifting eyes on the frame, which should be checked
beforehand for absence of welding cracks or other defects.
To exclude the diesel-electric set damaging, use the spreading bar (see Fig. 4.1), which ought to be disposed
over the diesel-electric set center of gravity. To avoid the diesel-electric set rocking and slings twisting do not
try to lift the diesel-electric set when the wind is strong.

ATTENTION!
NEVER LIFT THE COWLED DIESEL-ELECTRIC SET BY FOUR LIFTING EYES, SITUATED IN
THE CORNERS OF THE COWLING UPPER PART, WHICH ARE INTENDED FOR THE COWLING
MOUNTING/DISMOUNTING ONLY.

Fig. 4.1 Scheme of the diesel-electric set lifting.

4.3. DIESEL-ELECTRIC SET SITING

Genset is installed in the canopy and intended for the siting and operation at outdoor conditions. Diesel-
electric set siting is the most important part of its installation procedure, so it is necessary to provide in the
site, in which the diesel-electric set is supposed to be sited:
 Protection from atmospheric precipitation, ground waters, direct sunshine, low temperatures and
excessive heating-up.
 Protection from atmospheric fouling – dust, smoke, oil mist etc.
 Protection from impacts from falling things or moving transport.
 Protection from the unauthorized person’s penetration.
E58D2MS-1000OM
8

 Access to the diesel-electric set to carry out the maintenance services.

Spacing around the canopy of diesel-electric set for cooling, servicing and free doors opening ought to be not
less than 5 m, and ceiling height over the diesel-electric set – not less than 2 m.
 Adequate ventilation.
The cooling air has intake from the intake lovers of canopy, pass through the canopy and escape outside
through the outlet louvers.
 Exhaust gases withdrawal.
The genset exhaust system is completely laid out inside of the canopy. If an additional exhaust pipeline is
required outside of canopy it is necessary to take in consideration the followings.
Exhaust system is to be made of pipes with inner diameter not less than the muffler outlet pipe opening
diameter.
The resistances listed in the following tables are values which should not be exceeded. They are measured
on the engine at rated power and rated speed. They apply to the entire exhaust gas system.

The specification for the exhaust gas back pressure of the exhaust silencer are recommended values and
can be handled flexibly as long as the exhaust back pressure of the overall exhaust system is not exceeded.
To provide the backpressure, not exceeding the value, set up by the Manufacturer, the pipelines ought to be
straight and short as far as possible (up to 3 m), bend radii ought to be not less than 1,5 times of the pipe
inner diameter.
 Genset’s foundation.
The genst should be installed on the plain and rigid foundation which has to conform to the following
requirements of:
 Technological points regarding the overall dimensions, location and ease of installation;
 Serviceability;
 Tolerance to the oscillations, horizontal and vertical movements as well;
 Strength and durability;
 Building simplicity using the industrial methods;
 Efficiency (the foundation mass increasing not always decreases the vibration);
 Uniform and minimal settling;
The base surface of the genset frame should abut up on the foundation surface without the clearances.
The clearances presence should be eliminated by means of steel shims.
The reinforced concrete should be used as a foundation. The dimensions of the foundation depend
from a soil and depth of the soil frost penetration. In any case the foundation depth should not be less of 1 m.
 Vibration isolation of external connections
This is obtained with the help of flexible links in the fuel pipelines; exhaust system, system of the heated
cooling air withdrawal, power cables and control cables.
 Reliable grounding
Cross-section of the grounding wire, connecting the diesel-electric set with external grounding, ought to
be not less than 4 mm2 for copper wire and 6 mm 2 for aluminum wire. The resistance of the external
grounding device must not exceed 10 Ohms.
 Protection of power cables, laid on the floor, in order not to give rise to the danger of the personnel
affection by electric current.
The following ought to be taken into account during the installation of such diesel-electric sets:
 Dispose the diesel-electric set there, where it will be protected from damages and is far from exhaust
gases or other air contaminants, so as dust, smoke, mist, vapor or down.
 Always ground the diesel-electric set.
 Protect the cables, connecting the diesel-electric set with consumer, if they are laid on the earth.
Ensure air supply for cooling and heated air withdrawal, if the cowled diesel-electric set is installed indoors.
The pipelines ought to create minimum resistance to airflow.

5.3. MAINTENANCE METHODS

Methods of the maintenance operations carrying out for the engine and battery is set forth in the engine
Instruction Manual and for the generator – in the generator Instruction Manual.

CONTROL BOARD MAINTENANCE

To carry out the control board maintenance it is necessary:

 To clean the board from dirt, dust and moisture, outside and inside, using brush, clean rag or vacuum
cleaner.
 To check the fastening reliability and intactness of assemblies.
 To tighten all fastening parts.
E58D2MS-1000OM
21

 To check for corrosion on the apparatus parts and housing, remove, if revealed.
 To check the electric terminals are reliably tightened and give no short-circuit to the housing and between
them.
 To wipe the contacts with spirit.
 To smear the stops and hinges with oil, used for the engine lubrication.
 To check the insulation resistance of the current-conducting parts relative to the housing.
 To test the board on the working diesel-electric set during 15 min. Make sure that all instruments are
serviceable.
CHECK OF THE INSULATION RESISTANCE

Carry out the check of the insulation resistance of the diesel-electric set power circuits by megaohmmeter
with voltage 500V.
Before checking remove the cover of the generator terminal box. Disconnect the fine wires going to the AVR
(see the generator Instruction Manual).
Disconnect load wires from the diesel-electric set output terminals N, U1, V1 and W1, and interconnect the
terminals by technological jumpers.
One lead of the megohm meter connect to the interconnected output terminals and the second – to the
diesel-electric set mass and to measure the insulation resistance. It ought to be not less than 3 MOhm in the
cool state and not less than 1 MOhm in the hot state. After checking restore the diesel-electric set to the
initial state.
IT IS FORBIDDEN to operate the diesel-electric set, if the insulation resistance is below stated.
Increased humidity may be the reason of low insulation resistance. Dry the diesel-electric set at temperature
50-600C, until the insulation resistance will become normal. During drying the insulation resistance at first
reduces, and then increases and, at last, becomes constant or increased insignificantly.
CHECK OF THE DIESEL-ELECTRIC SET GROUNDING
Check serviceability and connection tightness of the grounding wires, connecting the control board
and the generator with the frame, and the diesel-electric set frame – with the basic grounding. Resistance of
the grounding device must be not more than 10 Ohm. Places of the grounding bolt connections are to be
well-cleaned from dirt, dust and after connection covered with technical Vaseline.
CHECK OF THE EMERGENCY PROTECTION AND SIGNALLING
Carry out the check by imitation of the emergency conditions.
To restore the diesel-electric set normal work after emergency condition checking it is necessary to carry out
the automatic control unit unblocking by pressing the buttons “HORN RESET” and “FAULT RESET”.
