Taylor Swift is a role model.

Taylor Swift is an American singer, songwriter, producer, philanthropist and

actress. She was born on December thirteen 1989 in Pennsylvania, US. On October

24, 2006, Taylor released her debut album called Taylor Swift, and the song

“Fearless” was an immediate hit “spending eight months on the billboard country

singles chart” (Ray, 2020). Since that time Taylor has been known for writing about

her private life and everything related to her emotions, achieving hits such as ‘You

Belong With Me’ and ‘Love Story’. She started in the country genre, but in October

2014 she released her first pop album called 1989. Throughout her musical career

there has been a debate about whether Taylor Swift is a good role model or not,

some people claim that she is a good role model because writing about her feelings

is not a sin, but others claim that her songs only produce hatred towards other

people. Apart from the debate over the lyrics of her songs, Taylor has been

questioned about the types of advice she gives to her young fans. Despite this,

Taylor Swift is a good role model for all young people in the world, especially for our

generation and the new generations.

Firstly, Taylor’s songs are a source of inspiratión for many people. Her songs

usually make people identify with the lyrics empowering young people. For example,

the song “The Man” helped many women realize that they can do the same this as

men, and they can do it even better. Besides, songs like “Soon You’ll Get Better” and

“Shake It Off” have inspired both men and women at their worst moments. However,

some people think Taylor’s songs are vindictive because every time something bad

happens to her the lyrics of her songs are about hate and revenge, and her videos

have violent images. In the case of music videos such as "Look What You Made Me
Do" and "Bad Blood" you can see violent scenes between Taylor Swift and her

friends against those she considers her “enemies”. Nonetheless, the music videos

are only a fictional representation to illustrate the songs. Her songs are not vengeful,

her songs are about real things that can happen to anyone and that's why men and

women identify with her lyrics.

Secondly, Taylor Swift empowers other people, and especially new

generations. Not only her songs inspire young people, her history and success of her

musical career is due to many years of effort. In her speech on receiving the women

of the decade award she said "I decided I would be what they said I couldn't be"

referring to those people who didn't believe in her. She also said "we shouldn't let

obstacles like criticism slow down the creative forces that drive us" because if there

is something that people do is to criticize the work of others, but we should not allow

their critics to discourage us. While some people support her career others claim that

she loves to become a victim in front of the media. In the problem with Kim

Kardashian and Kanye West, the media accused Taylor of lying for denying that she

had given her consent for Kanye West to release his song. Kim Kardashian "proved"

that Taylor swift had heard the song before its release, causing everyone to call

Taylor "Snake". However, in March of this year, Taylor Swift's publicist managed to

prove that the videos posted by Kim Kardashian in 2016 were edited and thus to

accuse Taylor of lying. Sooner or later justice always comes.

To conclude, Taylor Swift has become a good role model throughout her life

and musical career. Currently not all singers can achieve a connection between their

songs and the audience, but in this case many of the young people can feel

identified with Taylor Swift’s songs. Her songs and music videos show strong and

violent images, but this is what helps young people to feel identified as they take
those videos as a sample of the things they may be living, in order to realize reality

and be able to overcome difficult situations. On the other hand, many young people

don’t show themselves to others for fear of being judged or criticized. Negative

comments from people shouldn’t be an impediment to showing who you really are

and showing all the abilities you can have. Therefore, Taylor Swift is a clear example

of not paying attention to what people say about you, since throughout her life and

musical career she has met many people who have criticized her and who have

been obstacles to her professional growth. Although Taylor Swift has been part of

different scandals, she is a role model for new generations, she is characterized by

motivating everyone, especially women and young people to pursue their dreams

and never give up.
