Defining: It's not necessary to use
commas because only necessary
information is given.
Punctuation
Non-defining: The use of commas is
necessary because extra information
is given, which does not modify the
final message you want to give.
Defining: "That" can be used when
referring to a pronoun of "which or
who" because it gives the same
meaning to the context of the
phrase.
Non-defining and Pronouns (That)
Differences Non-defining: According to the rule,
defining relative clauses the use of "That" is prohibited since
the meaning of the phrase would be
changed due to the extra
information that is used, only "who
and which" is allowed to specify the
information.
Defining: Since the same pronoun is
being spoken within the sentence, it
is not necessary to repeat it again,
since it is clearly expressed.
Relative pronous
Non-defining: It's necessary to
specify because with the extra
information the sentence can be
distorted and give an unwanted
meaning therefore the relative
pronouns cannot be omitted.
