• use simple comparatives and superlatives correctly
• join clauses with common conjunctions such as ‘and’, ‘but’, ‘because’

• understand descriptions of relatively simple processes
• understand a narrative in an academic text with clear signposting
• understand common vocabulary
• recognize when information is repeated in a different way
• follow comparisons and contrasts in a sentence where the information is connected with

• understand the connection between sentences in paragraphs when common vocabulary
items are used
