I. Course Overview: Numerous challenges associated with managing modern
businesses demand the use of state-of-the-art technologies, which have potential
to transform the organization through better decision-making and increased
productivity. Implementation of enterprise systems can be considered as a similar
move which has significantly affected the businesses of every scale across all
industries at the global level. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, evolved
from material requirements planning and manufacturing resource planning has
been highly useful for entrepreneurs and managers dealing with various decision
making scenarios across different functional areas.

ERP is a business-suite by which a company manages and integrates the important

parts of its business. It is a management information system that integrates areas
such as planning, purchasing, inventory, sales, marketing, finance, human
resources and other functions. ERP tools share a common process and data model,
covering broad and deep operational end-to-end processes across multiple
industries, including line of business, customer-facing, administrative and the
asset management aspects of an enterprise, such as those found in finance, HR,
distribution, manufacturing, service and the supply chain.

ERP acts as a glue that binds the different computer systems for organizations. The
ERP software functions like some a central nervous system for a business. It
collects information about the activity and state of different divisions of the
corporate and makes this information available to other parts where it can be used
productively.
With contemporary and emerging ERP deployment models like web based ERP,
open-source ERP, cloud based ERP, On-Demand or Software as a Service (SAAS)
related models; newer opportunities and challenges have surfaced for Promoters,
Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and Chief Technology Officers (CTOs). Despite
significant gains, ERP deployments tend to come at a significant price, and the
business benefits are difficult to justify and understand.

Proper understanding and implementation of ERP have resulted in increased

efficiency and effectiveness at every level but at the same time, there are large
numbers of failed implementation across the globe too. Appropriate
understanding and analysis of these failed (fully or partially) implementation can
help the decision-makers in proper selection of ERP package, modules and process
of implementation in their organization.

Under this backdrop, this course is intended at enabling the future leaders to learn
various nuances of ERP. It will also equip students with various tools and
framework so that right ERP solution can be selected and put to best use in
Organization they serve. Course will also impart knowledge of contemporary
technology trends related to enterprise applications i.e. Business Intelligence, E-
Commerce, Open Source, Cloud, SAAS etc.

II. Course Learning Outcomes (CLO)
