1. PROBLEM Optimal Policy
Optimal Policy In each of the following cases, no shortage is allowed, and
the lead time between placing and receiving an order is 30 days. Determine
the optimal inventory policy and the associated cost per day.

a) 𝐾 = $100, ℎ = $ .05, 𝐷 = 30 units/day

2𝐷𝐾 2(30)∗100
𝑄+ = √ =√ = 346.41 ≅ 347units
ℎ 0.05

PR = dl = 30 units / day * 30 day= 900 units (punto de reorden)

𝑄 𝐷 346.41 30
Daily Cost = 2 ℎ + 𝑄
,𝑘 = 2
∗ 0,05 + 346,41 ∗ 100 = $17.320

b) 𝐾 = $50, ℎ = $ .05, 𝐷 = 30 units/day

2𝐷𝐾 2(30)∗50
𝑄+ = √ =√ = 244.94 ≅ 345units
ℎ 0.05

PR = dl = 30 units / day * 30 day= 900 units (punto de reorden)

𝑄 𝐷 244,94 30
Daily Cost = 2 ℎ + ,𝑘 = ∗ 0,05 + 244,94 ∗ 50 = $12,247
𝑄 2

c) 𝐾 = $100, ℎ = $ .01, 𝐷 = 40 units/day

2𝐷𝐾 2(40)∗100
𝑄+ = √ =√ = 849.42 ≅ 895 units
ℎ 0.01

PR = dl = 40 units / day * 30 day= 1200 units (punto de reorden)

𝑄 𝐷 894,42 40
Daily Cost = 2 ℎ + ,𝑘 = ∗ 0,01 + 894,42 ∗ 100 = $8.944
𝑄 2

d) 𝐾 = $100, ℎ = $ .04, 𝐷 = 20 units/day

2𝐷𝐾 2(20)∗100
𝑄+ = √ ℎ

PR = dl = 20 units / day * 30 day= 1200 units (punto de reorden)

Daily Cost = 2 ℎ + ,𝑘 = ∗ 0,04 + 316,227 ∗ 100 = $12.649

2. Problem: Mcurger Case

McBurger orders ground meat at the start of each week to cover the
week’s demand of 300 lb. The fixed cost per order is $20. It costs about
$.03 per lb per day to refrigerate and store the meat.

a) Determine the inventory cost per week of the present ordering policy.

Datos
K=$20
h=$0,03
d=300 libras/semana
Q= 1 Week

Inventory Cost
𝑄 300
Cost of storing = 2 ∗ ℎ = 2 ∗ (0.03 ∗ 7) = 31.5 $ / semana

𝑑 300
Cost to ask =NIK= 𝑄 ∗ 𝑘 = 300 ∗ 20 = 20 $ / semana

cc (inventory) = 31.5 +20 =51.5 $ / semana

b) Determine the optimal inventory policy that mcburger should use,

assuming zero lead time between the placement and receipt of an order.

Optimal amount to ask

2(300) ∗ (20)
QX = √ = 239,04 ≅ 240 libras
0.03 ∗ 7
Number of orders

𝒅 𝟑𝟎𝟎

Cycle time

𝑸 239,04
𝑻= = =0,796 semana*7= 5,57 dias
𝒅 300

c) Determine the difference in the cost per week between McBurger’s

current and optimal ordering policies.
optimal cost
𝑄𝑛 𝑑 239,04∗0.03∗7 300
𝑐𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑒𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑎𝑙 = ∗ ℎ + 𝑄𝑛 ∗ 𝑘 = + 239,04 ∗ 20 = 50,199 $ / semana

Diferencia de costo = 51,5 − 50,199 = $1.30039

3. Problem Policies comparison

Two inventory policies have been suggested by the purchasing
department of a
company.

- Policy 1. Order 150 units. The reorder point is 50 units, and the time
between placing an order and receiving the next one is 10 days.

- Policy 2. Order 200 units. The reorder points is 75 units, and the time
between placing an order and receiving the next one is 15 days.
The setup cost per order is $20, and the holding cost per unit inventory
per day is
$.02.

a) Which of the two policies should the company adopt?

Política 1

Datos:
Q= 150 units
Pr=$ 0,02
Lead time=10 dias
Si k= $20
H= $ 0.02
𝑃𝑅 50 𝑈𝑁𝐼𝐷𝐴𝐷𝐸𝑆
Demanda PR= d * l d= = = 5 𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑑𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑠 / Dias
𝐿 10 𝐷𝐼𝐴𝑆

b) If you were in charge of devising an inventory policy for the company,

what
would you recommend assuming that the supplier requires a lead time of
22
days?

Datos
Q= 200 units
PR=75 units
Lead times: 15 dias
𝑃𝑅 75 𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑑𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑠
Demanda PR= d * l d= = = 5 𝑈𝑛𝑖𝑑𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑠 / Dias
𝐿 15 𝐷𝐼𝐴𝑆
𝑄 𝑑 200 5
cost store= ∗ℎ+𝑞 𝑘 = ∗ 0,02 + 200 ∗ 20 = 2 + 0,5 = $ 2,5

R/ se recomienda utilizar la política 1 por tener menor costo
