Chapter 4
This chapter presents the design for the three-storey school building with twelve
classrooms and discusses the standard design for a school building according to National
Figure 1 shows the perspective of the proposed three storey school building. There are
one room for faculty and staff and three classroom for the ground floor, one room for laboratory
and three classroom for second floor and one room for library and three classrooms for third
floor. The comfort rooms are located at the right and left side of the building behind the
staircase. An identifiable entrance is provided at the front where the students may enter and a
ramp at the right and left side of the building where wheelchair users and people who use

Figure 2 and Figure 3 shows the vicinity map and site development plan of the proposed
school building which is located at Brgy. Ladol, Municipality of Alabel, Sarangani Province.
Based on the description of the land cited on the land title provided, thence: S. 46 deg. 49’ E
36.14 m to point 2; S. 46 deg. 48’ E 25.01m to point 3; S 59 deg. 59’ W 99.46m to point 4; N 46
deg. 26’ E 26.79 m to point of 5, N 46 deg. 28’ W. 38.91 to point 6, N 62 deg. 02’ E., 100.19m
to point of beginning.

Figure 4, Figure 5, Figure 6 and Figure 7 presents the ground floor plan, second floor
plan, third floor plan and roof deck plan of the proposed school building. As shown, the
dimension in each floor is 45545mm x 9625mm with an area of 438370625 square millimeters
(438.37 square meters). Each floor has three classrooms with a dimension of 9m x 7m which is
the standard size of classrooms set by the Department of Education. There are comfort rooms for
every gender provided in each floor found at the right and left side of the building which will be
discussed thoroughly on the detail plan of comfort rooms. . The corridors are 2.5m, where the
standard corridor according to National Building Code Section 8.01.0 shall not be less than 1.12
m wide. The ramp at the ground floor 1.5m wide with a total length of 5m.

Figure 8 and 9, show the front and rear elevation of the proposed school building. The
height of ground floor level to second floor level is 3.20m same to the height of second floor
level to the third floor. Overall the height of the proposed building is 12.3m from the finish
ground line. . As shown in the front elevation, every classroom has 2 doors of the same size
located on opposite of the classroom. The door is flush type swing out with an opening of 0.9m
by 2.10m, where the standard doorway according to National Building Code Section 8.01.07
shall be of a size as to permit the installation of a door not less than 90 centimeters (3 feet) in
width and not less than 2.00 meters (6 feet, 7 inches) in height. In the front elevation, it has 17
span of jalousie glass window with a dimension of 1.7m x 1.6m, where the standard windows
according to National Building Code Section 3.01.08 shall be at least 1/10th of the floor area of
the room. In the rear elevation, it has steel casement window with a dimension of 1.7m x 3.6m
and 6 span of jalousie glass windows with a dimension of 0.635m x 0.6m. The doors and

windows will be discussed more thoroughly on the schedule of doors and windows.

Figure 10 and Figure 11 presents the right and left side elevation of the proposed school
building. The width of the stairs is 1.3m with a vertical height of 3.0m above the second floor

proposed school building. As shown on Figure 12, the width of each classroom is 7m and the
width of the ramp is 1.50 m with the height of the handrail 1.20m from the finish ground line. As
shown on Figure 13, the height of the classroom extended to the top of roof beam is 3.20m.
According to the National Building Code of the Philippines, for buildings of more than one
story, the minimum ceiling height of the first story shall be 2.70 meters and 2.40 meters for the
