1. Explain how the four basic language skills relate to each other as
illustrated in the handout.

The four basic language skills that would relate to each other are the listening,
writing, speaking and reading. There are ways of communications. First is the
direction of communication with in and out. Then the method of communication
with spoken and written. It starts on speaking then the input is listening, then
the output is speaking. Then on written, it starts on reading then goes to
writing.

2. Point out the different areas measured in Language proficiency.

These are the different areas measured in Language proficiency, these are the
basic knowledge, conversant, proficient, fluent, native Language/native
speaker and bilingual. Basic knowledge is all about having the knowledge of
vocabulary and ability to speak phrases or sentences. Conversant is about on
handling communicate tasks on different social situations. Proficient is about
on someone who is very skilled in language and communication. Fluent is
about proficiency of language. Native language/native speaker and bilingual is
about having the primary language. Then Bilingual is about on capability to
speak two more languages.

3. Why is English Language Proficiency important in your field of


specialization?

This is important in our field of specialization because we communicate to


different people. Considering that our work as Nurses is very in demand to
other foreign counties like United States and United Kingdom. It is helpful to us
in order to mold our language and the way we speak to people since we were
dealing with patients. And we would become more confident to speak up with
different nationalities. That by applying these lessons would help avoid
grammatical errors and to compose phrases and sentences in good grammar.
