A Serious Man Reaction

A Serious Man explores the the implications a human experiences, when it comes
to his faith, in the face of seemingly undeserved events. How does a man retain his
faith in a God, that is seemingly unmerciful and what is the proper way of interpreting
this difficult events? The movie seems incoherent and random in its events, but all
this events represent the theme of faith. Larry is clearly out of his wits when it comes
to understanding the reasoning of God. He says “ I haven’t done anything!” showing
this struggle with God. Even in the end of movie, Larry seems to receive news that
he has an illness in return for illegally raising the grade of his F student.
Yet despite the odds Larry faces, this movie never seems to push the idea
that God is worthless because all He seems to do is bring pain. If there seems to be
no positivity or personal justice in your struggles, it is sometimes better not to think
about it too much. The second rabbi’s story of the gory teeth shows how people try
to decipher a deeper meaning in daily event, such as messages behind a customer’s
teeth but it could just end up futile. If you try not to find the reason and just have
faith, things may turn out better for you. Even if things do not turn out better, it does
not hurt to have a more positive attitude. When one believes a God, he/she has to
accept the ambiguous possibilities of faith.
