2.Zuzana Caputova has won Slovakia‘s presidential election, making her the country‘s first
female head of state.
● Denmark‘s new Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksenis the youngest in the country‘s
history. She is 41 years old.
● Finland's new prime minister -- 34-year-old Sanna Marin (World‘s Youngest PM)
● Sophie Wilmes has become the first female Prime Minister of Belgium
3. The eight West African nations ( Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Niger,
Senegal, Togo and Guinea-Bissau) have agreed to change the name of their common
currency from ‘CFA franc’ to ‘Eco’, after they jointly severed the CFA franc‘s links to
former colonial ruler France.
4.Puerto Williams in Chile has become the world‘s southernmost city after its status
upgraded from hamlet to city.
5.China has officially opened operations of the world‘s largest radio telescope, which it will
use for space research and help in the hunt for extraterrestrial life.
● The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope, or FAST, is the size of 30
football fields and has been hewed out of a mountain in the southwestern province
of Guizhou. It is also known by the name ―Sky Eye‖ in China.
6. Karen Pierce, the UK‘s permanent representative to the UN, has been appointed as
Britain‘s ambassador to Washington, becoming the first woman to hold the position – the
most prominent in the diplomatic service.
7.Gita Sabharwal of India has been appointed as the United Nations Resident Coordinator
of Thailand by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

8.Portuguese Prime Minister, Antonio Costa has announced that Portugal will be

9. In Cuba, President Miguel Díaz-Canel has appointed Manuel Marrero Cruz as the
country's first prime minister in more than 40 years.
10.The South Pacific region of Bougainville voted overwhelmingly to become the world‘s
newest nation by gaining independence from Papua New Guinea
11.The Polynesian island of Tahiti will host the surfing events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
12.Comptroller and Auditor General of India Rajiv Mehrishi has been elected as external
auditor of the World Health Organization (WHO) for four years from 2020 to 2023.
13. Inger Andersen, Denmark‘s Economist and Environmentalist, took over as United
Nations Environment Programme‘s (UNEP) Executive Director, headquartered at Nairobi,
Kenya, for 4 years.
14.The Mahatma Gandhi IT and Biotechnology Park (MGIT-BP), built with the assistance
from India was inaugurated at Grand-Bassam in Cote d‘Ivoire (Ivory Coast), a West
African country.
15.German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen has been nominated for the post to
replace Jean-Claude Juncker.
Chief of International Monetary Fund Christine Lagarde has been nominated as the first
woman to head the European Central Bank.
NATIONAL AFFAIRS:
● The Citizenship (Amendment) Act has come into effect from 10th January, 2020
according to a gazette notification by the Union home ministry.
● According to the CAA; members of six minority communities who have come to
India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan till December 31, 2014 will not
be treated as illegal immigrants but given Indian citizenship.
● Census India-2021 will begin on 1st of April this year and will end on 30th of
September. It will be conducted through a mobile phone application.
● Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that Cabinet has approved the Ram
Mandir Trust on February 05, 2020.
● It is named- ‗Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra. -15 trustees -K. Parasaran
has been appointed the chairman of the trust.
● The Supreme Court delivered the historic verdict on November 9, 2019. The bench
had declared the ownership of the entire land to Ram Lala and 5 acres of land be
provided to Sunni Waqf Board at another place for construction of a Masjid.
● On January 27, 2020, the Government of India signed the historic agreement with
the nine factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). According
to the agreement, the Bodoland Territorial Area District will hold special rights for
the locals.The accord signed is the third agreement signed in 27 years.
● Ending the 23-year old Bru-Reang refugee crisis, the central government signed an
agreement with Tripura, Mizoram and representatives from the community in New
Delhi.
● On 5th of August 2019, the President of India promulgated the Constitution
(Application to Jammu and Kashmir) Order, 2019.
● The order effectively abrogates the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir
under the provision of Article 370
● A separate Bill - the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill 2019 - was introduced
to bifurcate the State into two separate union territories of Jammu and Kashmir
(with legislature), and Ladakh (without legislature)

● The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly has passed the AP Decentralisation and
Inclusive Development of All Regions Bill, 2020 that intended to give shape to the

Kurnool.
● The Andhra Pradesh assembly has passed the statutory resolution to abolish the
Legislative Council with 133-0 votes.
