HIS PHILOSOPHY
 The process of design is not broken
down into stages “ My office rejects systematisation and modernisation and takes a

ROW HOUSE IN SUMIYOSHI ( AZUMA HOUSE ) – 1975-76

GEOMETRY AND LIGHT

ROKKO HOUSING I, ROKKO HOUSE, HYOGO (1978-83)

The site is right at the foot of Mount Rokko in Kobe on a south-

facing 60 degree slope.
From here there is panoramic view extending from Osaka bay
to the port of Kobe.
The building is composed of a group of
units, each measuring 5.8X4.8M .

In section , it follows the slope and in

plan, it is symmetrical
Each of the twenty units piled up on the face of the slope
has a different style of terrace and their views vary widely .
The intention was that life in these diverse units
would unfold around the terrace and in
communication with nature.
CHAPEL WITH THE LIGHT , IBARAKI , OSAKA ( 1987-89 )

Man and light encounter each other

directly. Everything that might obstruct
that might obstruct that direct
