BUSINESS COMMUNICATION

NAME: JOYCE ANN N. DELA ROCA                        YR/SECTION: BSBA 3103

ASSIGNMENT 01:

Answer the following questions to the best of your knowledge.

Communication (Journal)

1. How often have you thought you explained something well only to discover that
your friend did not understand?

I often thought that I was able to explain my thoughts well but end up didn’t. Maybe
because I’m sometimes forgetful about saying the important thoughts and jumping immediately
on the small details like for example I’m explaining about my experience on eating on a
particular food chain, and I want to try them to eat there too or join me when I want to get back
there so as I am explaining about the place and food and forgot to tell where it is or forgot to tell
the name, but in my thoughts I already say it and turned out that we have a different place or
food chain in our mind. It’s funny when we realize that it is not that food chain she thinks about
and it’s my fault for talking too long and explaining too much but did not say the main and
important idea. And sometimes it also turned out to be unclear to them when my delivery of
thought or my choice of words didn’t match up on the thoughts that is on my mind.

2. What silly conversational mistakes have caused some serious misunderstandings

in your life?

I think when I’m teasing someone and it turned out to be bad. I think I says too much and
I crossed the line. It’s a bad feeling when realizing that she became angry at me and cause some
misunderstanding. I did not meant to say something bad but it turns out to be. And I feel sorry
and I apologize to her and promise to be careful on what to say.
3. Can you identify exactly why the problems happened?

I think it is because of being comfortable with her and she’s my best friend that I always
used to tease. Even though we are really close and used to tease each other it is always the best to
think first before we speak or if we are angry according to the latest Kdrama I’ve watched (It’s
Okay to be Not Okay) that at least count 1 to 3 before you do anything impulsive.

4. What do you want to learn more about, and why?

I always want to learn new things and enhance my skill so that I can keep up with others.
But specifically I want to learn about how to effectively communicate with people. I am trying to
figure out how to effectively communicate with people to share the knowledge the best way I
can. Because having a good communication skills is essential for us as a marketing student.
People with good communication skills also usually enjoy better interpersonal relationships with
friends and family. And I want to learn this and be an effective communicator.

5. When were you the most creative, and why do you think that is?

I am most creative in the morning with full stomach and great ambiance and quiet place
because I tend to focus on my work and do the task quickly. But sometimes I do the other
activities or assignments on later time. And I think creativity peaks in the morning as the creative
connections in our brains are most active. Working early morning feels like our brain is doing
well and it’s healthy. It stimulates more great ideas and thoughts.

What I do first in the morning is I drink one glass of water, I also go outside to take some
light and I do light exercise. It helps my brain to function well before I do a heavy task or even
there is no task to do. But other people tend to be most creative at night because it’s more
peaceful and quiet and also less distractions on the social networks. It is also good and I
sometimes do my home works at night. But the important thing is I make sure I am focused
regardless if it’s morning, afternoon, night, or midnight.

6. What made you curious today? How does learning feel different when you’re
curious?

Curiosity makes learning more effective and enjoyable and a curious people not only ask
questions, but also actively seek out the answers. Curiosity leads to more enjoyment and
participation in school as well as greater learning, engagement, and performance at work. It may
seem like common sense, but when we are more curious about and interested in what we are
doing, it’s easier to get involved, put effort in, and do well. What made me curious today is
where do I want to be? What will be my career in the future?

7. When were you at your best today, and why?

Today, I did a lot of things like cleaning our house, wash clothes & curtains, changing
sofa sheets and buy groceries and it is fulfilling that I can help with my mother because she can’t
move freely because of her backache and I don’t want her to get tired so I do all the household
chores and I think it is the best thing I’ve done today.

8. (Assuming we were studying the same thing and you could decide and have access to
anything), where would you start tomorrow? Why?

If I have access to anything and would probably start tomorrow I think I will start
researching on how I can help to fight and end this Covid19. We all want to get back on our
normal life and want to do the things we used to and I want all people to live a normal life again.

9. What can/should you do with what you know?

What I can do on what I know is to have an opportunity to share it to other people, be an

inspiration to them and help them to be motivated as they live their life to the fullest.

10. What’s the most important thing you learned so far? Why do you think so?

The most important lesson of my life so far is to believe in myself. You don't have to be
the best among all others but if you will be yourself you will be at your best. Embracing change
because change can be hard for anyone, but instead of fearing it you should embrace it. Another
thing is making mistakes is about learning lessons. We are not a perfect person and we do lot of
mistakes in our life and it lead us to be a better person.
What matters is that I live a meaningful life while creating positive impact on other’s life.
