The Joint Administrative Tribunal (JAT) is formed when two or more states agree to come together and request a tribunal under the Administrative Tribunals Act of 1985. A JAT exercises the same powers as State Administrative Tribunals on behalf of the participating states, settling disputes related to administrative decisions. JATs were established to provide an alternative avenue for dispute resolution outside of normal courts.

Ques: Write short note on Joint Administrative Tribunal.
Ans: Administrative Tribunals was set-up by an act of Parliament, Administrative Tribunals
Act, 1985. It owes its origin to Article 323 A of the Constitution. The Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985 provides for three types of tribunals: Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), State Administartive Tribunal (SAT), and Joint Administrative Tribunal (JAT). A Joint Administrative Tribunal (JAT) is formed, when two or more states come together and ask for a tribunal under sub section (3) of section 4 of the Administrative Tribunals Act, 1985. Such a Joint Tribunal would then exercise powers of the administrative tribunals on behalf of such states. Their powers are more or less synonymous to the powers of the State Administrative Tribunals.
