The Navy League of the United States, founded in 1902, provides a powerful voice for strong sea

services to Congress and has grown into the foremost citizens’ organization to serve, support and stand
with all the U.S. sea services – Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine.
Currently, the Navy League has 245 councils all over the world, which support and actively promote
community youth-oriented programs such as NJROTC, MCROTC and NROTC units by providing funding,
resources and educational scholarships. More than 10,000 young Americans learn to embody discipline,
good citizenship principles, and education and training on sea service customs and traditions. In 2012,
the Navy League awarded 129 Youth Scholarships, and presented 2,280 Sea Service Awards. On the
legislative side, more than 52 members of the 112 th Congress received one or more Navy League
Grassroots Legislative Affairs presentations. Navy League efforts helped make an impression on the
importance of budget stability and led to the passage of an appropriations bill for the sea services. Sea-
Air-Space is the Navy League’s premier event, and is now the largest maritime expositions in the United
States, and continues to grow. In 2012, Sea-Air-Space welcomed more than 11,500 visitors; key
attendees included sea service leaders as well as members of Congress, congressional staff and a
number of military, industry and diplomatic officials from the United States and abroad. Seapower
magazine, the Navy League’s official monthly publication, reports on developments of interest to the sea
services. Seapower’s January Almanac issue remains the world’s most widely used reference publication
about the sea services.
