Not too long ago, 2018, to be exact, I quit my grueling 9-5 corporate office
job. I decided to start my own digital marketing agency from nothing. No
email list, no followers, no contacts, just a Facebook profile. At the end
of 2018 I hit my first $10k month, I'd started crushing it and word was
spreading fast, people were referring me clients from all over the USA. Fast
forward to April 2019 and I have just hit $30k per month with my agency
and we are still growing.

One of the number one places you can find clients is through Facebook
Groups. There are millions of business owners engaging every single day in
Facebook groups.

These are general business groups & also industry specific business groups.

So what’s the best way to get yourself a client from these groups??
The first step is to find a good group to join & these are normally closed
groups. Public groups tend to be full of spam and should be avoided.
However closed groups have a vetting process and therefore have higher
quality members who could potentially be your client.

In might take some experimentation to find a good group & some of the
industry specific ones might not let you in, but there are literally thousands -
so keep at it & you’ll eventually hit the jackpot!

So once you’ve found a good group and you are in there... what’s next?

The number one mistake I see digital marketers make in Facebook groups is
that they jump on every single post that mentions marketing, literally 50+
responses to a business owners post.

All that does is overwhelm them and scare them off!

What’s worse they try to show off by speaking in Marketing lingo... Most
local business owners have no idea what a “bot” is or what “CTR” means or
what a “lookalike audience” is.

Look for posts that have absolutely nothing to do with marketing!

Example:

A business owner posts in a group asking for advice on business insurance...


guess what... No other digital marketer has commented on this, because
they are looking for only marketing related posts.

So YOU comment on this post about business insurance and say:


“Hi I’m using X insurance for my business & it’s been great. Hope this helps!
What kind of business do you run?”

When the person responds and tells you what kind of business they run,
most likely they will ask you what kind of business you run and if they don’t
ask you, you can still respond and tell them.
“That sounds like a great business, I run a Facebook Ads Agency that
generates new bookings and customers on autopilot using automated
messenger booking systems. Let me know how it goes with the insurance.
Have a great day!”

See what I did there? I’ve commented on a post that no other marketer in the
group has - I’ve got no competition! I’ve engaged in a conversation and in
response to them telling me what kind of business they run, I’ve told them
what I do in a non salesy way. Almost in passing. I haven’t talked in
marketing jargon that confuses them, I speak THEIR language

So What Happens Next?

It might take a little experimentation and practice but potentially one or all of
the following could happen:
People will see your comments on the post and leave a comment saying they
are interested.
People will see your comments on the post and check out your personal
profile. Which is why it is super important that your personal profile aligns
with who you say you are and what you do.
People will see your comments on the post and send you a message on
messenger.

So the BIG takeaway from this is:


Find a good group & comment on the non marketing related posts and
weave into the conversation what you do in a non salesy and techy way.

It may take a bit of experimentation but if you do this multiple times every
day, eventually people WILL get in touch and want to arrange a meeting
with you.
