What are the burglars looking for?

They were wiretapping the DNC office in order to sabotage Nixon’s


political enemies. Specifically Larry O’ Brien, the chairman. He was vocal for the democratic party and as
such a threat to Nixon.

Why members of the Committee to Re-elect the President resort to illegal tactics? Nixon had a thing
for winning, and he wanted to win big.

What does the Nixon campaign hope to learn? They wanted to know about DNC political tactics The
bug only revealed internal rumors among employees. Even worse, Larry’s phone was broken.

Why does the taped door caused such concern? Usually, a taped door isn’t a concern because cleaning
staffs usually do it. But the security guy had already removed the tape, but then later, he saw that the
door was re taped .Then he called the police

What is Nixon paranoid about? He was scared that his rivalries and the media leaks would undermine
his international policies. The VN war, for example. If the public had not how the Vietnam War was
really going, they would be mad. He didn’t want to be seen as the first president to lose a war. An
example of this would be the Pentagon papers when it was leaked.

What are Nixon aides concerned that the press will find? They were scared that the press would find
out about the break in of Ellsberg psychiatrist office, which is the guy that leaked the Pentagon papers.

How important is Deep Throat to the Watergate story? He had a critical role. He had around 400
stories and leaks to Woodward from Washington. He single handedly “brought down the White House”

Does the White House knows who’s leaking information to the Washington Post? They suspected it
was Felt. Hadleman knew that it was him.

Who’s paying the burglar’s legal bill? They paid it right out of Nixon’s campaign funds. It kept the
burglars silent.

Did Nixon play any role in the Watergate break in? No one knows. There was no clear evidence on his
involvement. But his constant demand for his enemy’s info led to the break in.

Why does Nixon decide to dismiss his closest allies? Dean was essentially leaking information to the
media, so Nixon had to get rid of him by asking him to resign. Also, he wanted to save his presidency by
cutting all links to the Watergate. It backfired because it made him even more vulnerable.

What did the President know, and when did he know it? W don’t know if he executed the burglary, but
he sure did covered it up.

staffer got the info.

Why doesn’t Nixon destroy the tapes? He could have, but never did. He thought that it would help him
rather than sabotaging him.

What is the President’s state of mind? He appeared sudicidal.

Would Senate removed Nixon from office? Even members from his own party wanted to get rid of him
