ONLINE LEARNING DURING LOCKDOWN OF COVID-19

Universities in Malaysia have all been closed down due to the Restricted Movement
Control (MCO) that has been announced by the government. Therefore, universities has switched
from face-to-face classes to online learning classes. This RMO is to help stopping the further
spreading of the virus, COVID-19 which can cause deaths. In my opinion, universities should
not make online lessons and online assessment a compulsory part of their teaching and learning
programmes in the future even after the RMO is lifted.

Firstly, universities shouldn’t make online lessons and online assessments a compulsory
part of their teaching programmes in further future even after RMO is lifted because not all
students have access to internet. Students staying in hostels will face poor internet connection
problem because they are many other students staying in that same hostel are using the internet
too. Besides that, not all student can afford to pay for Internet services. Therefore, not all
students can afford and have the ability to connect to the Internet connection.

Besides that, it is not a good idea to make online classes and online assessment
compulsory after RMO because it might increase the stress level of the students. If online classes
and assessment were to be continues after RMO, students’ stress level might increase because
they are required to take classes in campuses and also classes online. This will increase their
stress level and lead to depression. Therefore, online classes and assessment shouldn’t be made
compulsory after RMO.

Some people say that it is a good idea to make online classes and online assessment
compulsory even after RMO because online classes and online assessment can help discipline
the students. However, online classes cannot really help in disciplining the students because
some students might ignore the online classes held by the universities because they think it is not
necessary to study online when they are attending classes in campuses.
In conclusion, it is not a good idea to make online classes and online assessment
compulsory even after RMO because of the poor connection of Internet and it might increase the
stress level of a student and lead to depression.
