1) What is your idea of Sustainable Living? Please elaborate in less than 200 words.

Sustainable Living is the idea that human societies must live and meet their needs without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Sustainable Living is
basically a lifestyle that helps to reduce an individual's or society's use of the Earth's natural
resources and personal resources in order to preserve the planet for future generations. It
includes using products or services where the processes involve maximizing benefits to people
and communities while minimizing impact on the environment.  Sustainable living is a method
of reducing one’s carbon cost. sustainable living aims to achieve an environmental
equilibrium. In other words, return to the earth whatever you take from it. It’s a necessary
lifestyle ethos that should become the default if we want to preserve the planet for future
generations. There are many different ways in which a business can become sustainable. In
simpler terms these are reducing wastage, preventing pollution, adopting clean energy,
conserving water, greening the planet by planting trees, using sustainable materials, and by
making their products sustainable.

2) Which Brand / Online platform in your view is a Gold Standard for Benchmarking and Why?
In term of sustainability, Unilever is one of the top most companies which can be set as Gold
Standard for Benchmarking.
Unilever has done more than make green investments, it’s made sustainability part of its
business uniqueness. The company’s Sustainable Living Plan sets targets for sourcing, supply
chain and production on everything from energy and water use to treatment of suppliers and
communities where they function. The Unilever Sustainable Living Plan sets out to decouple
their growth from our environmental footprint, while increasing their positive social impact.

3) How will you approach and structure the research required to gauge the target market for
sustainable living? *
Sustainable living brands grow faster. Sustainability creates value for all businesses.
Many business people would think that it's such a skeptical statement, as there used to be a
tendency to think of commercial activity and sustainability as separate things, but that's not
the case anymore.
Sustainable living brands have to take action to make sustainable living commonplace in a way
that’s relevant to their product, good for society and motivating to consumers.
They have to integrate sustainability not only into their purpose but also into their products.
The principal way brands grow is by increasing penetration among infrequent and non-users,
and this can be achieved by making the brand more memorable. A strongly articulated
sustainable living purpose brought to life through communications can deliver a powerful
emotional response and generate brand fame.

4) If selected, how you will contribute to the development of a sustainable curated online
marketplace?
In a broader sense, we can Definitely make changes in the packaging of products like using
cardboard or paper packages instead of using plastics, or we can use ecofriendly plastics like
Polybutylene succinate (PBS), Polycaprolactone (PCL), Polybetaine adipate terephthalate. We
can also reduce electronic wastage. And if the company is product specific, then we can make
changes in the ingredients of the product where we can use environment friendly raw
materials instead of artificial ingredients.

5) What are your thoughts on the relation between Sustainability and Corporate Social
Responsibility?

To say an organization is "sustainable" is - in a nutshell- really saying they are acting

conservatively in their use of raw materials, energy, and responsibly managing their solid
waste streams. Sustainability is a much broader term aimed at reduction of negative Social,
Economic & Environmental effects while carrying out businesses.
Corporate Social Responsibility is a sub set of Sustainability. CSR is aimed at social aspect in
general. In simple terms, CSR is any action a corporation does to benefit the relationship
between a corporation and the community, and to make a positive difference in the
community with employee engagement, financial support, and volunteerism. Corporate social
responsibility is a business trying to do well in the community through responsible actions.

To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put the focus on
sanitation, the Prime Minister of India had launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on 2nd October
2014. So, when this mission was started, I used to participate in it in my graduation days
whenever our college used to organize the same. I used to do it not because I will get a
certificate from Hindustan Unilever Ltd. for doing so but because I will be able to keep our
mother earth clean. Because I think that we should take initiative whenever we get a chance to
take one in order to make our planet a better place to live for all.

Hotel/home Food Wastage

Whenever we go out to eat in a hotel or a restaurant, the two of us always make sure that we
don't waste food as much as we can and order food in small proportions only. Sometimes if we
are not able to finish the food, we give it to someone who is in need of the same or to the
people who look after our society such as watchmen or to the person who picks out garbage.
Food supply to homeless and poor

When my teammate used to stay alone in Chennai, he used to cook food for people who
couldn't afford to cook food for themselves. He Used to serve the food to 2-3 needy people.
We both know that these are not some big social causes but we both strongly agree on one
point that even these small things make a huge difference and we try to contribute as much as
we can. We also do it from the bottom of our hearts and also because it makes us feel good
when we do it and not because we will benefit out of it or anything. We both also think that we
should take initiative whether big or small whenever we get a chance so that we can make our
planet a better place to live for all.
