The following items are likely to present possible hazards - chemicals, ion exchange resins, electricity, air and water pressure. Please ensure personnel are familiar with these hazards and that adequate precautions are maintained CHEMICALS Hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, formaldehyde, hydrogen peroxide and cleaning chemicals are frequently used in conjunction with ELGA Process Water equipment. They should be handled with great care as they can give off harmful vapour and contact with the skin can cause burns. Protective clothes should be worn when handling these items. Should skin contact occur, then douse the affected area continuously with cold water and seek medical attention. Chemicals should be transferred from tank to tank with the aid of a low pressure transfer pump, rather than by tipping or pouring Ensure chemicals and disinfection agents are used in well ventilated areas. Manufacturers’ recommendations on chemicals containers should be closely adhered to. In the case of major spillage’s ensure that suitable equipment is on hand to deal with the spillage. Note - Water is not always recommended for large spillage - sand is preferred - please check. ION EXCHANGE RESINS Resin beads are used in ELGA Process Water deionisers. They are small hard beads and are slippery and any spillage should be swept up immediately. Contact with the eyes is highly dangerous and painful. Resin beads should be removed from the eyes immediately in the event of contact, and medical attention should be given as soon as possible. Protective glasses should be worn. lon exchange resins expand from dry to wet and if vessels are over filled rupture could occur. ELECTRICITY ‘The unit must be properly earthed and the correct rated fuses should be fitted. Power should be switched off at a remote isolator before commencing work on the equipment. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 5 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005 Health and Safety AIR AND WATER PRESSURE ELGA Process Water equipment operates at pressure and, where possible, this should be reduced before commencing work. Normal protection from freezing should be taken, as ice inside pressure vessels and pipework can cause rupture. Compressed air can be dangerous and great care should be taken with its use. IF IN. DOUBT FURTHER INFORMATION ON SAFETY CAN BE OBTAINED FROM THE ELGA PROCESS WATER SERVICE DEPARTMENT CONTROL VALVES The automatic diaphragm valves, numbered V2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 used on the Repide Strata Plus Plus product range are designed to close on air failure. They are of the ‘normally closed’ design and require motive air to open. The only serviceable item contained in the valve assembly is the line diaphragm item 24, shown on the diagram below. To access the diaphragm only the removable items shown should be removed. The actuator unit is designed to be maintenance free and on no account should it be dismantled. In the unlikely event that the actuator does fail - the whole valve unit must be replaced. The actuator is spring loaded and requires specialist tools to dismantle. It is DANGEROUS to attempt any repair to this part of the control valve. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 9 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005 ELGA ——a PROCESS WATER introduction THE PRINCIPLE OF WATER PURIFICATION BY TWO-BED DEIONISATION ‘A complete deionisation system requires two resins - a cation resin to remove cationic impurities such as calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium, and an anion resin to remove the anions which are mainly bicarbonates, chlorides, sulphates and nitrates. The RAPIDE Strata Plus is a three-bed deioniser and is so called because the resins are housed in three separate cylinders, thereby forming three "beds". The “Strata” is so named because the anion is a layered bed consisting of an upper layer weakly basic anion and a lower layer strongly basic anion resins. Both resins are synthetic organic copolymers of styrene and divinylbenzene in the physical form of small spherical beads of about ¥# millimetre average diameter. The cation resin is used in the hydrogen form and when impure water containing cations other than hydrogen is passed through the bed, the cationic impurities react chemically with the resin and the equivalent amount of hydrogen is released into the water (Equations 1-4) RH, + Ca(HCOs}e > RCa +2H,COs (1) RH, + MgSO, > RMg +HSO. @) RH +NaCl > RNa +HCl (3) RH +KNOs 2 RK +HNOs (4) The anion resin is used in the hydroxyl (OH) form and in this case, the chemical equivalents of hydroxyl ions are released into the water when the anionic impurities react with the resin (Equations 5-8). R(OH)e +H2CO3 > RCO; +2 HO (5) R(OH)2 + HeSO, = SO. +2H.0 6) ROH + HCl > RCI +H.0 7) ROH +HNO; > RINOs + HO 8) The hydrogen ions released from the cation resin combine with the hydroxyl ions from the anion resin to form water, which replaces the impurities that were originally present in the water. The second cation resin bed removes trace quantities of sodium hydroxide present in the outlet water from the preceding anion resin bed. RH +NaOH > RNa +H.0 Hydrochloric acid (HCI) is used to regenerate cation resin. The 'H" ions displace the impurity’ cations and return the resin back to the hydrogen form. Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) carries out a similar function on the anion resin, the ‘OH’ groups of the regenerant displacing the anionic impurities and return the resin to the hydroxyl form. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 10 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005 Description PROCESS AND PLANT DESCRIPTION PROCESS DESCRIPTION AND HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS (Refer to the flow diagram included in this manual) The Rapide Strata Plus is a twin-bed water deionisation plant with cation and anion resin held within separate pressure vessels. The ‘Strata’ refers to the layered anion bed consisting of an upper layer of weak base anion resin and lower layer of Strong base anion resin. This artangement improves chemical efficiency and tolerance to dissolved organics present in some feed waters. The design features counter flow regeneration of the resins which are compacted into the pressure vessels. The plant is designed to treat potable town mains or borehole water free from suspended solids. The plants can also be used to deionise permeate water produced by reverse osmosis. In service the water supply is fed (usually directly from an adjacent storage tank) to the connection marked ‘Feed Water’ adjacent to an automatic valve V1. This water then passes into a multi-stage centrifugal pump PU1, the wetted parts of which are constructed of corrosion resistant materials, driven directly by a 3-phase electric motor. The water is pumped through a flow metering device and an automatic valve V3, to the first vessel - a composite GRP, polyethylene lined or vinylester tank containing cation ion-exchange resin beads. The water flows through the cation resin in a downward direction, thereby exchanging the positively charged metal cation components of the salts in the feed water such as, calcium, magnesium and sodium, for hydrogen ions thereby producing mineral acids. The decationised water flows from the bottom connection of the cation vessel via an automatic valve V8, to the top connection of the second vessel - a composite GRP, polyethylene lined or vinylester tank containing anion exchange resin beads. The water flows through the anion resin in a downward direction, exchanging the negatively charged anion components of the mineral acids such as, chlorides, sulphates and carbonates, for hydroxy! ions. The salts in the feed water are thus removed and remain on the resins. The remaining hydrogen and hydroxyl ions combine to form further water molecules. The deionised water flows from the bottom of the anion vessel and is continuously monitored by an in-line resistivity indicator RI, L. The resistivity of the deionised water is continuously displayed on the control panel situated at the front of the unit. Providing the resistivity of the deionised water is within the resistivity specification, it will pass through the automatic flow control valve V'13 and leaves the plant via the connection marked ‘Deionised Water Outlet’. The deionised water is then fed directly to an adjacent treated water storage tank. When the deionised water storage tank is full, the Rapide Strata Plus unit automatically switches from the service condition to the external recirculation condition. The deionised regeneration water automatic inlet valve V2 opens and the automatic feed water valve V1 closes. External recirculation may be either intermittent or continuous depending on the selected input options. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 11 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005, ELGA —— PROCESS WATER Description Continuous recirculation may however cause a significant increase in water temperature unless controlled and this may be undesirable. Alternatively an intermittent recirculation option can be selected. On receiving a high level signal from the deionised water tank, recirculation will continue for two hours after which recirculation will occur for 5 minutes every two hours, Regeneration After a pre-set volume of water has been deionised by the RAPIDE Strata Plus unit (dependent on the model and the concentration of salts in the feedwater) the plant will automatically and simultaneously regenerate the cation and anion exchange resins. The regeneration process is as follows:- The automatic deionised water outlet valve V13 is closed to prevent water or regenerant chemicals passing to service during the regeneration process. The feed pump PUI is stopped for a short time to allow the valve changeover to be completed. The feedwater automatic inlet valve V1 is closed and the regeneration water automatic inlet valve V2 is opened. With the automatic valves V3, V8 and V26 closed and automatic valves V4, V6, V7, V0, V12 and V23 open, deionised water is pumped upwards through both ion exchange vessels to drain at a sufficient velocity to compact the resins against the upper distributor of each vessel and simultaneously remove any dirt particles which may have collected on the top of the resin bed during the service cycle. After a short time, the automatic valves V6 and V12 are closed. Deionised water continues to be pumped through the automatic valve V4, the acid ejector EJt and the caustic soda ejector EJ2. The automatic valves V5 and V9 open; concentrated regenerants, usually 32% Hydrochloric acid and 32% Sodium hydroxide, are drawn into the ejectors and are diluted to the required strength with deionised water before being fed into the bottom connection of the second cation and the anion vessels respectively. The required flow rate for the concentrated regenerant chemicals is set during commissioning by adjusting the manual metering valves V14 and V15 in conjunction with flow meters FI1 and Fi2 situated upstream of each ejector. The regenerant chemicals flow upwards through the resin beds removing salts exchanged on to the resins during the service cycle. The hydrochloric acid flows from the top of the second cation vessel to the bottom connection of the first cation vessel. The salts, together with a quantity of excess regenerant chemicals, flow out of the top of each resin vessel, through automatic valves V7 and V10 and are mixed together producing an initial degree of neutralisation before flowing from the drain connection. At the end of the chemical injection time period, automatic valves V5 and V9 close. Deionised water continues to be pumped through automatic valve V4 and the ejectors EJ1 and EJ2 in order to rinse the resins to remove the regenerant chemicals. This process is followed by a higher flowrate rinse stage during which the automatic valves V6 and V12 are also opened. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 18 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005 LG PROCESS WATER B | Description REGENERANT CHEMICALS Specifications The quality of the chemicals used for regeneration will effect the quality of the deionised water produced by the Rapide Strata Plus Plus. Some commercially available Hydrochloric acid and Caustic soda solutions contain impurities, which are undesirable for the production of high quality deionised water. Hydrochloric Acid (HC!) For optimum performance the use of hydrochloric acid between 28% to 32%, conforming to BS3993: 1966 Type 1 is recommended. This is commonly known as high or synthetic grade. Caustic Soda Solution (Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH)) Caustic Soda solution is commercially available in a variety of concentrations and qualities related to its method of manufacture. A 28% to 32% solution is specified as standard. Rayon grade should be used for optimum performance. Important Note: The minimum ambient temperature is specified at 15°C, because below this caustic soda becomes very viscous and starts to freeze, making chemical injection into the unit extremely difficult. If the ambient temperature is between 10 and 15°C only use caustic soda at between 28%-30%, HANDLING OF REGENERANT CHEMICALS Rapide Strata Plus Plus units are designed for fully automatic operation. In order to achieve this, itis necessary to have a continuous supply of regenerant chemicals at all times. Itis strongly recommended that local regenerant chemical tanks are installed, which can be fitted with level controls. The Rapide Strata Plus controls include inputs for low-level switches from regenerant chemical tanks. Fitting these will prevent the plants commencing regeneration when insufficient chemicals are available. Locally installed regenerant tanks will provide additional operational benefits: - greater operator safely and convenience fixed rather than flexible regenerant chemical pipework and less handling of hazardous chemicals than with carboys. This should also reduce the escape of acid fumes into the local environment. The Acid Tank Breathers utilise a special dyed ion exchange resin which neutralises air containing hydrochloric acid vapour, as it passes through the breather, reducing corrosion and damage to locally sited equipment As the ion exchange resin becomes saturated with acid vapour, the dyed resin changes from blue to a grey or cream colour. When the grey or cream colour has reached the top of the clear section of the Acid Tank breather it should be removed , the resin removed and replaced. Carboy Type The Carboy Acid Tank Breather was designed to be fixed onto a wall or a suitably sized vertical pipe located close to a standard acid carboy. A fixing kit is supplied,( see Specification table). In order to connect the suction line from a Carboy to acid inlet connection on Rapide Strata Plus Plus a Carboy fitting Kit 718156 will also be required, This package allows easy connection of the Models 4 and 10 deionisers to most standard carboys. The carboy- Acid Tank Breather will adequately remove acid fumes caused by expansion of the vapours in the Carboy but it is not designed to be used with on-site refillable carboy's. Tank Type The Tank type Acid Tank Breather is designed to be mounted on top of a typical fabricated acid storage tank or demount and is supplied fully assembled ready for fitting to a 2" BSP Male threaded connection on a tank. The Tank Acid Tank Breather will adequately remove acid fumes caused by expansion of the vapours in the tank but itis not designed to be used as the only method of venting during filling - see Technical specifications RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 21 Manual Part no: 917061 Revision G: August 2005 ELGA PROCESS WATER Description Technical Specifications _ | Carboy type ____| Tank type Part Number | 4001800 4001803 Part Number Installation Kit 466250 NA Part Number Resin Refill Pack 208331 | 208333, Dimensions - Height 355mm approx 428 mm approx Diameter 60 mm approx 124mmapprox_—— Shipping Weight 1.5 kg approx 2.5 kg approx Fittings 44-66 mm Bung 2" BSP F Connection 3/8” BSP, (215mm tube _| Not applicable supplied Mode of Operation ‘Anion Exchange Resin _| Anion Exchange Resin _ Capacity for Hydrochloric Acid | 85 litres 190 litres Vapour _ Max. The Tank Type- Acid Tank Breather should therefore always be used with alternative venting during filling. Caution UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should ELGA Process Water Acid Tank Breathers be used as the only form of venting during air pressure transfer as the units are not capable of withstanding the high flow rates involved and rupture of the acid storage tank could occur. If you require any further information on this product or alternative methods of acid tume control please contact ELGA Process Water Service. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 22 Manual Part no: 817081 Revision G: August 2005 installation INSTALLATION GENERAL Suitably qualified personnel should carry out installation, if in doubt please contact ELGA Process Water for advice. Location When choosing the location for the Rapide Strata Plus Plus the following points should be considered: ‘* The feedwater supply must have sufficient rate of flow to satisfy the maximum service flow of the Rapide Strata Plus Plus. ‘Ideally the location should allow the feedwater break tank and deionised water storage/regeneration water tank to be sited adjacent to the plant and on the same level. * The safe and convenient location of the regenerant chemicals should be considered. Refer to current regulations concerning the handling and storage of hydrochloric acid and caustic soda solutions. * Ensure the chosen location allows sufficient access to the plant both for normal operation and routine maintenance work. * Headroom and access for maintenance purposes. Foundations and Drain No special foundations are required providing a firm, level and dry surface capable of supporting the weight of the Rapide Strata Plus Plus unit is available in an area not subject to freezing conditions. A suitable drain, preferably an open gully, capable of handling acidic and alkaline effluent flows (See Technical Data Section for connection size information) should be constructed within 3 metres of the plant. The effluent drain should be connected to the foul sewer or the factory effluent system RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 23 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005 ELGA ———a PROCESS WATER installation TYPICAL INSTALLATION DIAGRAM i lyf RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 24 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005 installation RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 25 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005 ELGA PROCESS WATER installation TYPICAL INSTALLATION DIAGRAM (WITH ORGANIC SCAVENGING) RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 26 Manual Part no: 317061, Revision G: August 2005 ELGA ———s PROCESS WATER instailation PIPEWORK CONNECTIONS AND TANKS The feedwater should be filtered to a minimum of 30 microns before the water is fed to the break tank. Where towns mains water pipework is connected directly to the break tank, the installation must conform to the local water supply regulations. Fit an isolating valve before the break tank. Ensure the capacity of the break tank is sufficient for the size of the Rapide Strata Plus unit. Locate the feedwater break tank as close as possible to the inlet of the plant - maximum distance 3 metres unless the break tank is elevated above the Rapide Strata Plus Plus unit. The maximum inlet pressure to the Rapide Strata Plus range is 1 bar g (14.5 psig) * Permanent pipework to and from the Rapide Strata Plus unit should be installed using ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), or PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) solvent welded pipe. Stainless steel, polypropylene or PVDF pipework may be used for the feed and treated water if required. The minimum size of this pipework should be that of the inlet/outlet connections (See Technical Data for details) * Connect the Rapide Strata Plus outlet to the deionised water storage/regeneration tank which should be positioned as close as possible to the deioniser - maximum distance 3 metres, and not below the level of the Rapide Strata Plus unit. Connect the Rapide Strata Plus deionised water inlet to a bottom connection from the treated water tank. Fit a non- return valve to this pipeline if the feedwater head is greater than that of treated water in order to prevent any possible by-pass. The treated water/regeneration water tank must be large enough to contain sufficient water for at least one regeneration plus 25% to allow for float switch action. This minimum volume can be obtained by adding 25% to the effiuent volumes for each Rapide Strata Plus Plus unit given in the Technical Data. When sizing this tank, allowance must be made for service during plant regeneration. A fully drainable treated water tank is normally recommended for applications which require the tank and associated pipework to be cleaned and disinfected * The regeneration chemical tanks or carboys are not normally supplied unless requested. The tanks should be located, preferably on the same level, at a maximum distance of 6 metres from the plant. Caustic soda solution should be maintained between 15°C and 30°C. Connect the hydrochloric acid (28% to 32%) to the acid inlet and the caustic soda (28% to 32%) to the caustic inlet. * The Rapide Strata Plus requires a continuous compressed oil free air or nitrogen supply of between 5.5 to 6.0 bar. Connect a pipe line of 5/16" or 8 mm OD pneumatic tubing to the air filter on the unit. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 27 Marval Part no: 317064 Revision G: August 2005 ELGA PROCESS WATER installation ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS See appendix for electrical diagrams All plants require a 400 volt three phase 50 Hz supply and earth. Other power supplies can be specified according to local requirements. The three-phase supply should be connected into the control box through the glands provided. All Rapide Strata Plus plants are fitted with a door interlock isolator and suitable miniature circuit breakers (MCB). Signal Input and Output Connections Ensure that the level controls for the plant from the raw water tank and the treated water tank are fitted. All input connections are 24 V DG and should be installed separately from the higher voltage supply cables. All low level switches should be wired to open on low water level and high level switches to open on high level. If low-level acid and caustic soda float switches (to open on low level) are fitted to the regenerant tanks, they should be connected to terminals 3&4 and 586. If the switches are not fitted, a link wire will be needed between terminals 3 & 4 and 5 &6. To inhibit an automatic Regeneration, remove wire link between terminals 17 and 18. To enable continuous external recirculation when the treated water tank is at high level, fit a wire link between terminals 15 and 16. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 28 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005, Operation OPERATING PROCEDURES COMMISSIONING Initial commissioning of the Rapide Strata Plus units should ideally be carried out by a ELGA Process Water trained, commissioning engineer in order to ensure optimum performance and reliability. Rapide Strata Plus models 4 and 10 are delivered with ion exchange resins pre- loaded and regenerated. Please contact ELGA Process Water Service for further information regarding plant commissioning, operator training, service contracts or spare parts for your Rapide Strata Plus Plus. INITIAL CHECKS The Rapide Strata Plus has been designed for continuous operation once commissioned. If after commissioning however, the plant has been turned off, the following checks should be made before turning the power on. © Feed water filter - check condition and clean or replace element if necessary, * Establish feed water supply, if necessary fill feed water tank. Compressed air supplies pressure (5.5 to 6.0 bar). Slacken transit straps on pressure vessels. Treated water tank contains deionised water. This will be required should the plant require immediate regeneration. * Regeneration chemical tanks contain sufficient chemicals for a regeneration Turn on separate mains isolator (f fitted) On Satisfactory Completion of the Above Items the Plant May Be Started Turn the door interlock isolator switch to the ON position. The message display panel will be illuminated and there will be a reading on the digital water quality meter. After a short time the pump should start. The plant will initially start in internal recirculation. Observe the operational status on the message display. If the message display changes to "SERVICE WATER GOOD’ the plant will go into service, if the treated water tank is full, ‘HL EXT RECIRC ON’ (external recirculation). If, after prolonged recirculation, the message display indicates ‘ALARM - STOP.W.BAD or ‘ALARM UNIT HUNTING’ the plant may require regeneration. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 29 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005 ELGA ——s PROCESS WATER Operation Ensure that there is sufficient deionised water in the treated water tank to complete regeneration, then press the regeneration initiation button and release. Providing there is sufficient deionised water in the treated water tank the plant will automatically proceed through a regeneration sequence. If there is insufficient water in the treated water tank see 'How to regenerate the plant when no deionised water is available’, later in this section, CONTROL PANEL MANUAL CONTROLS AND ADJUSTMENT Initiate Regeneration Press and release button to manually initiate a regeneration sequence. Alarm Accept/Alarm Press and release button to accept the alarm and mute the audible alarm. To cancel a regeneration if initiated in error press and hold button for approximately 5 ‘seconds. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 30 Manual Part no: 317081 Revision G: August 2008 Operation DUPLEX OPERATION The automatic control equipment for duplex operation is incorporated into the design of the RAPIDE Strata units as a standard feature. Duplex operation is when two units are linked together electrically to provide a continuous supply of treated water - one unit in service and the other in standby or regeneration. Refer to the Wiring diagram for details of electrical connections between the two plants. To operate in duplex, locate the Relays in each unit labelled Rt and the input terminals 13 and 14. In Unit “A connect link relay R1 contacts 11 and 14 to input terminals 13 and 14 in Unit “B". In unit “B" connect relay R1 contacts 11 and 14 to input terminals 13 and 14 in unit oa Refer to the Wiring diagram for details of electrical connections between the two plants. In order to maintain the water quality from the standby unit, water is normally recycled internally and recirculated externally around the Rapide Strata Plus Plus system continuously or intermittently. Providing the quality of the deionised water is 'GOOD' as continuously measured by the in- line resistivity monitor, the outlet valve V1 on the standby unit will be open allowing part of the flow to pass into the treated water tank. This will be replaced by deionised water from the tank being fed to the plant inlet through valve V2. This reduces the amount of temperature and pressure build up, which can occur during prolonged closed recycle conditions. If the intermittent recirculation is selected the unit will initially recirculate water for two hours. This is followed by two hours off, after which recirculation will take place for 5 minutes in every two hour period. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 31 Manual Part no: 317061 Rovision G: August 2005 ELGA PROCESS WATER Operation CONTINUOUS OPERATION The Rapide Strata Plus units are designed for continuous operation consisting of both service and automatic regeneration cycles. The quality of deionised water passing to service is controlled by the measurement of the resistivity of the treated water and displayed on the meter on the control panel. Once the water quality falls below the acceptable quality for the plant the outlet valve will automatically close preventing water of an unacceptable quality passing to service. In normal operation the volume of deionised water produced between regenerations is, displayed on the throughput meter on the control panel. This amount of deionised water is pre-set according to the size of the unit and the concentration of dissolved solids in the feed water. Once the unit has produced the pre-set volume of deionised water it will automatically change from the service condition and regenerate the resin beds. On successful completion of regeneration the unit will return to the service condition. {an alarm signal is produced by the unit during normal operation refer initially to the Fault Finding section in this manual. PLANT SHUTDOWN The Rapide Strata Plus units are designed for continuous operation. Short Term Shutdown If the unit is required to be shutdown for a short period such as overnight or over a weekend period, simply turn off the mains on/off isolator on the control panel. This will switch off the pump and cause all the automatic valves to close thereby isolating the unit. To re-start simply turn on the mains on/off isolator. Water will recirculate initially until an acceptable quality is produced before producing water to service. (See ‘Initial Checks and Start-Up’ in this, manual). Long Term Shutdown Please refer to ELGA Process Water Service for specific advice. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 32 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005, Operation REGENERATING THE RAPIDE STRATA PLUS WHEN NO DEIONISED WATER IS AVAILABLE IN THE TREATED WATER TANK For initial commissioning of the Rapide Strata Plus or in the unlikely event that the regeneration/deionised water storage tank has insufficient water to carry out the regeneration sequence, the following procedures should be followed in order to regenerate the Rapide Strata Plus Plus. The Rapide Strata Plus Plus should not be regenerated with town mains or borehole water. The regeneration/deionised water tank must be filled with a sufficient volume of treated water to enable a complete automatic regeneration sequence to be completed The following grades of water can be used to fill the tank: * Deionised water, maximum conductivity 50uS/em * Decationised water * Reverse osmosis permeate * Softened water. If the Rapide Strata Plus is in operation having reached its pre-set volume throughput but will not automatically regenerate due to low deionised water in the regeneration tank, press and hold the ALARM/MUTE reset switch on the control panel for about five seconds. The Rapide Strata Plus will reset to the Service position and the volume throughput meter will be reset to zero litres. Providing the water quality is ‘GOOD’ deionised water will flow to service. Fill the tank with only sufficient deionised water for one or two regenerations. If the resistivity of the water produced by the unit falls below the set point one of the ‘WATER BAD’ messages will be displayed and the outlet valve V13 will automatically be closed. In order to complete the filling of the regeneration/treated water tank the resistivity control ‘WATER BAD ' signal can be inhibited. If the resistivity of the water produced by the unit falls below the set point one of the ‘WATER BAD’ messages will be displayed and the outlet valve V13 will automatically be closed. in order to complete the filing of the regeneration/treated water tank the resistivity control ‘WATER BAD’ signal can be inhibited, by producing a FORCED WATER GOOD condition. ‘A “password is required to configure the FORCED WATER GOOD condition. This mode allows the regeneration/treated water tank refilling operation to be completed. The FORCED WATER GOOD condition must be disabled in order to return the unit to its normal operation before it is put into regeneration. RAPIDE Strata Plus Page 33 Manual Part no: 317061 Revision G: August 2005, FAULT FINDING Operation The provision of a message display unit as part of the control panel should assist in diagnosing the fault condition, Record the alarm condition display on the control panel and refer to the table below for assistance.
