Q6 – Golden’s Memoirs of Geisha is a sweeping romantic (blockbuster,
legend, tale) set in the mysterious and exotic world of early 20th-
century Japan, which (casts, reveals, puts) a powerful spell on readers.
In this novel, Nitta Sayuri (tells, narrates, outlines) the story of her
life. Sayuri’s (epic, story, account) begin in a poor fishing village in
1929, when, as a 9-year-old with unusual blue-grey eyes, she is taken
from her home and sold to a renowned geisha house. Through her (view,
eyes, sight) we see the depraved heart of Gion – the geisha district of
