CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

In this chapter the design of the reinforce concrete beam with embedded pipes and the test
effect of the opening in the specimens sample.

TEST SPECIMENS AND MATERIALS

A total of five reinforce concrete beams to construt. All beams are 1000mm length, 300mm
depth, and 150mm width. The reference specimen will be solid cross section. Four
specimens each have 3 PVC pipes inserted perpendicular to the length of the beam with the
PVC pipes diameter of 30mm. The two specimen inserted with 3 pipes 250mm from the
near end and space with 100mm on center. Two other specimen inserted from the center of
the beam and space 100mm on center. Ordinary Portland cement use in the concrete
mixture and the proportion of cement, sand and gravel were 1:2:4. All specimens reinforce
with four longitudinal bars as flexural reinforcement 4-16mm diameter. The vertical stirrups
consisted of 8-10mm diameter space at 130mm c/c. The specimens cast in wooden forms
made of plywood. After 24hours specimens curing keeping them wet for 14 days.

TEST PROCEDURE

All beam test as simply supported beams under central concentrated load (P), the load
apply on the top surface. The test perform at the civil engineering laboratory at Engineering
department of Eastern Samar State University. Universal Testing Machine use to apply load
to the specimen with a portable stand support.
