REALISM

Answer the following briefly:

1. How do educators apply the philosophy of Realism teaching?

Educators apply the philosophy of realism teaching by giving activities to the

students closer to real life situations. Realist educators let the students discover reality not
making reality. Realist educators engage his/her students to problem solving which
enable their minds to function. Realist educators also expose the students to observation,
experience, experiment and scientific reasoning which needs deeper understanding to
discover truth and consider it as reality.

2. Give the implications of Francis Bacon 4 idols in terms of the following;

a. Teacher
Teacher is the most influential agent in teaching and learning process. Whatever
the teacher says, students acquired it. For example, the teacher have dislike on the form
of government which is communism, students might believe that communism is not good
form of government. In this case, deceptive beliefs are acquired by the students.
b. Teaching Strategies
Every learner has its own unique perception about things. In teaching strategies,
the teacher able to deliver a certain topic without having bias on one side. Every student
has the opportunity to learn regardless of its race, staus, religion and sex.
c. School Curriculum
The school curriculum provides students with learning experiences which they
need in their daily living. Through school curriculum, students are aware what is
happening to their surroundings.
d. School Administration

The School Administration is regarded as total processes inclusive of all

responsibilities and functions necessary for running the school. It provides and manages

various elements of the teaching-learning situation such as the learners, the teachers, the

curriculum and the socio-physical environment.

3. Consider the philosophies of the following realist influenced you personally as a

teacher, in your teaching strategies, content of your lessons, dealing with your
students, dealing with parents.
a. St. Thomas Aquinas
As a teacher, I always incorporate God in my lesson. I will provide a learning
environment which will make my students more closer to him. Dealing with my students
with fair and equal treatment should be applied or practiced to eliminate discrimination.
In dealing with parents, I will be honest about the student’s progress so that they know
how well the student’s performance in class.
b. John Milton
As a teacher, I prepare my students in the real world by giving them activities that
are real life situations. Modelling is the useful strategy in teaching the subject wherein
students able to imitate what the teacher does. Dealing students in the present by finding
out the interest of the learner and to teach accordingly. Dealing with parents by having
reports about what is the student’s performance in the present to improve it in the future.
c. John Amos Comenius
As a teacher, I will deliver my content with the use of the senses of my learners
which will activate them to participate in teaching and learning process. Giving activities
to the students that will boost their learning when it comes to senses. Coordinating with
the parents about the student’s perception in life.

4. Cite examples from Realist point of views that are useful to mankind.

5. Consider yourself as a Realist, what contributions can you give to mankind?
One contribution I can give to mankind is my own quote “ Once you look back,
you move forward ” which means that if you look back what you’ve done in the past, you
will be able to improve it that will result to moving forward. As you move forward, a new
experience to learn , grow and improve one’s personality. Lastly, I will emphasize the
significance of time to my learners so that every individual will use time efficiently. No
one knows when your life ends so make the most out of it.
