Stakeholders in the IEP

process

By: Kristin McIvor

What is a School Based Team?

- “A school-based team is a core group of staff within a

school who meet on a regular basis to problem solve, make
suggestions, and plan interventions for students who are
struggling with any aspect of their education” (SD #33)

- Parents/guardians should always be informed of a referral

to a school based team meeting regardless of whether or
not they can attend.
Parent Referrals

- The first step when a parent has a concern is to set up a

meeting with the classroom teacher.
- The parent should bring any notes that they have made
regarding concerns about schoolwork, friendships, etc.
- Keep an open mind and communicate how you can collaborate
towards success for your child.
- Take notes during the meeting
