Interview Point

Language

Problem face – identity confuse between other ethnic dont get scholarship easily

Upper class always discriminate kristang people even the teacher push them to sit far away
they say kristang is a low class language

She started class with 5 student now have 20 so younger really want to learn

Main point – dying language not really expose people not really know good idea to start
kristang club in university

Those who do not want to learn kristang can go away cannot force them because the language
talks among the community only

She do cooking workshop using english and kristang , she got many people from outside of
malacca want to study

Initiative that she do for younger generation to study the kristang language is she teach class
at her house every Saturday but cannot do now beacause of mco

Balance other subject in the sattlement the convent teach subject Bahasa Malaysia , English
and mathematics to the children because they all weak on the subject

The parents have to practice the language at home with the kids so that they all can learn the
language and memorize it

Food

Only the small community knows the delicacy of the food thats why it is a bit strange to
malaysian but now the media social promote so more people know the food

All the people in the settlement know how to cook because the parent will teach them on how
to cook

The main attraction is the curry dabel or call as curry “devil” because of the spiciness its dry
like rendang but dont have coconut in it

The difference between kristang and malay food is the spice and for example in the curry
dabel they dont use coconut they use the viniger instead
The passing down on generation is succesful in her family part

The younger generation can carried on the curry dabel it will not die because it is use in event
wedding and others

They have to come to the sattlement for it to be known and more popular then we can move
to make it as an ethnic in malaysia

Mostly the foods from home are authentic some of them in shops is authentic but some is not
