Abstract

This paper investigates the effects on the compressive strength of the fly ash bricks by the
addition of natural fibers. Coconut coir fiber and rice husk ash are used for the reinforcement of
the fly ash brick at the stage of manufacturing process of the brick. Coconut fiber is used in the
brick to increase the compressive strength of the brick and to reduce the cracks formation while
loading. And further, rice husk ash is used to reduce the temperature of the brick. The ratio of
each fibers were added in terms of percentage range (5%, 10%) in both separate and
combinations. An observation has been carried out between the normal commercially available
fly ash brick and the fiber mixed fly ash brick on the compressive strength, water absorption
quality were assessed in a successive manner. The test results showed that the addition of
coconut coir fiber and rice husk ash, has significant changes in the strength parameters, water
absorption quality and other properties of the fly ash bricks.
