Use of natural fibers in civil engineering construction exercise is frequently advantageous as they may be

reasonably-priced, regionally to be had, biodegradable, and ecofriendly. One of the most available
natural fibers is coir. Coir is produced in massive portions in South Asian countries, such as India, Ceylon,
Indonesia, Philippines, etc and has higher mechanical properties, such as tensile strength. In this study,
effects on the strength and stiffness behavior of soil reinforced with coir fibers are presented. Soil
samples strengthened with coir fibers of various sizes, and made into cylindrical soil specimens have
been examined in triaxial shear equipment to determine the stiffness and strength of soil response due
to fiber inclusion and the effects had been compared with that of unreinforced soils. The results show
that addition of coir (1–2%) as random reinforcing material increases both strength and stiffness of clay
soil considered in the study.

Modern construction world needs an increased in the demand for housing and roads resulting in
densification of land use. Structures specially houses and buildings have been built in agricultural
locations that have been converted as residential colonies. In this project for making inexpensive yet
effective construction, jute and lime is used for empowering the properties of soft clayey soil. soil has an
effective ground improvement by admixing technique because of its easy adaptability.

In construction lime is an effective agent to be mixed with soils to improve its properties due to its
chemical action. By using mixture of natural jute fiber and coated jute fibers for ground improvement, it
can reduce the brittleness of soil stabilized by lime only. The natural fibre reinforcement causes
significant increased in tensile strength, shear strength and other engineering properties of the soil. The
natural fibre reinforcement causes significant increase in tensile strength, shear strength and other
engineering properties of the soil. The reinforcing material used in the study is jute fibers with different
diameter and length. In this paper, an optimum value of percentage of lime to be added along with
different proportions of jute to improve the properties of the soil is recommended. For significant
increase in strength the soil is first stabilized by adding lime and then reinforce with fibers. Based on the
results obtained, it can be concluded that the expansive soil can be successfully stabilized by the
combined action of jute fiber and lime.

Expensive soils represent clayey soil that when the prevailing moisture condition is allowed to change,
the tendency is to shrink and swell. The main objective of this paper is to used one of the various
methods for improving the properties of exapansive soil by using the combination of coconut shell
powder and lime in stabilizing the expansive soil collected from Chittoor of Palakkad district, kerala.
Coconut shell powder and lime are commonly available materials and are also economical. This study
presents the improvement of compressive strength of expansive soil when stabilized with different
dosages of coconut shell powder and lime with 0%, 3%, 6%, 9% and 12% and lime 3%, 6% and 9%
respectively. The results show that coconut shell powder and lime improve the properties of expansive
soil. It increased the compressive strengthof expansive soil by 228%.

Stability of soil is very important criteria in the field of construction. Different methods of stabilization
can be adapted for soil which lacks sufficient stability. Stabilization is useful because it can increase the
shear strength of soil and control the shrink swell attribute of soil, thus improving the load bearing
capacity of the sub-grade to support pavements and techniques. This report is about the feasibility of
stabilizing soil by using rice husk ash and coir. Rice Husk are the hard protective coverings of grains of
rice. It is also chemically stable and its physical properties are similar to that of natural sand while Coir is
the fibrous material found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat of a coconut. The fibrous
property of coir helps in improving the structural integrity of soil when mixed in required proportions.
