Stage 1 - The Proposal

1. My issue is racism. Racism is when people are discriminated based on their race
and color. They are denied certain rights or excluded due to their color which
they have no control over. Racism is relevant to me because I have faced
discrimination throughout my life and it makes me feel like I don’t belong.

2. My opinion on this issue is that it’s illegal and unethical to treat people differently
because of their race. Race is something you’re born with and that shouldn’t
change how you’re treated. Everyone should be treated the same way. One of
the reasons that everyone should be treated equally is because it demotivates
and crushes people’s confidence. Many people tend to isolate themselves, and
treat others badly due to how they’re being treated. Many people tend to commit
suicide and take drastic steps.

3. - 18 percent of racialized men report experiencing discrimination or unfair

treatment when dealing with the police or courts
- One in three Canadians believe that Aboriginal Peoples and Muslims are the
frequent targets of discrimination

-“We found that (almost) 50 percent of Canadians believe it’s OK and actually
normal to have racist thoughts,” said Sean Simpson, vice-president of Ipsos
Public Affairs.

I think global and Candian based websites like the Candian Encyclopedia will be
helpful in researching this issue.
