IITs Ask for Another Year to fill EWS Quota

IITs collectively need to increase their student intake for undergraduate courses,
masters and research programmes by about 6700 seats for accommodating the 10
per cent Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota.
Out of the target of adding 6700 seats, approximately 2,300 seats (about 500 for
B.Tech ) were added in 2019-20. The remaining 4,400 seats (about 1,300 for Btech)
were expected to be added this year.
IITs have sought a year’s extension to the 2021 deadline due the challenges of
maintaining social distancing in the hostels once the institutions reopen.
23 IITs have collectively approached the Centre with the request recently.
To ensure that existing number of seats for SC, ST, OBC and general category
students does not face cuts, all centrally funded educational institutions, including
IITs have to increase their overall student strength by 25 percent, over two years, to
accommodate the quota.

JEE Advanced Result 2020

JEE Advanced Tie Breaker Policy

https://collegedunia.com/exams/jee-advanced/counselling 6/14
13/09/2020 JEE Advanced 2020 Counselling by JoSAA Dates (Released), Seat Allotment and Counselling Process

If there is a clash between two or more candidates in terms of their aggregate marks,
then the following tie resolving policy shall be used:

Aspirants with higher positive ranks will be given a higher rank.

Aspirants with greater marks in mathematics will be given a higher rank.
Aspirants with greater marks in Physics will be given a higher rank.
If the tie situation still continues, then it will be resolved by assigning the same ranks
to the candidates.

JEE Advanced Rank List 2020

The candidates who appear for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 will be considered for
ranking. Rank list is prepared on the basis of aggregate marks scored in JEE Advanced
2020, which is the sum of marks secured by a candidate in Physics, Chemistry and
Mathematics. To be included in the merit list, a candidate must clear the qualifying cut
off. As per JEE Advanced 2020 information brochure, the minimum percentage of marks
prescribed for inclusion in the rank list is tabulated below:

Eligibility for JEE Advanced Counselling

Candidates who qualify JEE Advanced will be allowed to participate in JEE Advanced
2020 Counselling for admission to various UG courses offered by IITs. However, these
candidates should fulfill the following eligibility criteria to take part in the counseling and

seat allotment process.

1. Candidates should have obtained a rank in Common Rank List in JEE Advanced.
2. Earlier as per the criteria, the aggregate in the qualifying examination should not be
less than 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) for the candidates. In the case of percentile, the
candidate should be among the top 20 percentile their respective board
examination. However, IITs have dropped the percentage criteria for admissions
this year. IITs will grant admissions based on the performance of the candidate
in JEE Advanced 2020 irrespective of their score in class 12th board exams (the
candidate must have a passing certificate).
3. The aggregate marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Language
(Language paper in which candidates have scored higher marks will be taken into
consideration) will be calculating the aggregate in qualifying examination. If any of
these are not evaluated during the final year, (for eg. Three-year diploma courses)
the marks of the previous year will be taken into consideration.
4. Candidates who have failed in one or more than one subject in the qualifying exam
should appear for the exam in 2016 and clear it in this attempt.
5. In cases where the qualifying board offers only letter grades, the candidates are
required to procure a letter from the board indicating the aggregate marks of the
candidate. Otherwise, the decision in such matter will be taken by the Joint
Implementation Committee of JEE Advanced 2020. The decision of the committee
would be final and no request for any review would be considered.
6. The marks of Class 12th would be considered only, in case, the board provides the
marks for both Class 11th and 12th in the qualifying examination. If the board provides
only the aggregate marks for qualifying examination, then the aggregate marks will
be considered for evaluation.

Note: Candidates including foreign nationals will have to abide by the above-
mentioned criteria

Log in using the Registration No (User ID), JEE Advanced 2020 Roll No and
Password to check their seat allotment status.

Students should check their status of Seat Allotment at the end of every round.

Allotments might change due to up-gradation. Hence, students should pay attention
to this.

The soft copy of the category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) certificates uploaded at the time of
online registration will be scrutinized against originals during seat allocation

If the certificates uploaded are found to be inappropriate, the student will be treated
as General only if their score in the Paper-1 of JEE Main is above the cutoff score for
General category.

Note: The seat allocation in JEE Advanced 2020 Counselling would be completed
within three rounds. All the candidates are therefore advised to check the status after
the completion of every round, as there is a possibility that the seats allotted to them are
upgraded because other students have either withdrawn from the course or have
accepted seats they prefer.

Step 4: Reporting for JEE Advanced 2020 Seat Allotment

Candidates are required to report to the Zonal IIT after the seats are allotted to them. All

automatically forfeited. In case, the applicants are offered an upgradation, they will have
to forfeit the seat allotted to them earlier in order to accept the upgraded seat.

https://collegedunia.com/exams/jee-advanced/counselling 12/14

and by their parents. This form states that the student is eligible for admission as per
the 'Top 20 Percentile Cut off Marks of their respective Board in their respective
categories for the year of the passing of qualifying examination’.

All the applicants should also upload the scanned copy of marks sheet of 10 + 2.

Candidates allotted seats in any of the seven rounds should report to the respective
institutes on the specified date and time.

Step 5: Provisional Admission

The institutes will issue a final allotment letter and grant provisional admission to
candidates after verifying the documents and the fee is paid by the candidate.
Candidates who fail to meet any eligibility criteria or are caught providing false
