PRODUCTION AND
SCRIPT WRITTING

2.1 Learning experience

During my internship, radio Pakistan management assigned many task to me which was good
learning experience for me. I was active participant among my colleagues and performed many
task which was very good addition in my skills. My main time of internship period spent in
production department. It is the main department of any broadcasting organization and overall

15
play pivot role. During my tenure of internship production department ois run by producers
Faisal javed. He taught me all the production techniques and technical skills along with
theoretical knowledge.

News production

I joined this session during my internship period where I learned how to write and edit news.
The composer prompts the news item and news production process starts. One printed copy is
provided to anchor and other is provided to production room. Then producer check the news and
call anchor to sit in studio for news recording. The producer is connected with the anchor
through mic and give instructions. The producer intimate anchor to get ready through mic and it
is a sign for anchor that news recording has started and anchor starts reading out news. The
producer through device called console adjust the audio. Various devices are attached to the
console such as anchor mic headphone, telephone line for beeper or call in between news.

The management gave me assignment to record and produce news after one week of training in
the production department. I followed the same steps which was taught by producer Faisal javed.
It went well and got appreciation from my mentor, I noted all my mistake which was highlighted
by producer and tried to rectify them.

News writing

In the internship process I worked as writing news for the news program, the assignment editor
Mrs. Farah awan assigned this work to me. By the grace of Allah and hard work of my senior
personnel I was able to write news. As I studied in my course work that news must be short,
objective and based on inverted paramid rule of writing, the same I was told here by the senior
news writer. The news story is based on three parts. These are lead or intro body and editing the
news story on page must be having a date line as well byline written. In my internship, I wrote
Urdu news.

Editing

In the training part of my internship I also learned how to edit news in the news room. News was
written by news writer and they gave me task to edit the news for correction purpose. I checked

16
the news for correctness, spelling mistake and objectivity. I also learned the usage of audio
editing software such as adobe audio edition. In the adobe edition I learned following things

 How to split one news to another news

 How to remove distortion in recorded news
 How to put sounds effects in the recorded news

Script writing

Another task assigned to me was to assist script writer for writing script. It was lengthy process
and our topic was to write script on Gurdwaradarbar sahib kartarpur. My job was to collect all
information about topic then script writer wrote the script of above mentioned topic and taught
us points to be consider while writing script.

The points were

 Don’t write your radio script as if you’re reading it, write it down like it is going to be
spoken out loud
 Use your words to paint pictures
 Keep your script concise

2.2 Learning outcomes

During my internship tenure I learned a lot of things. I was able to produce news and worked as
internee producer for a very short span. I followed the same steps which was taught by my
seniors. I also worked in new writing and tried to write news as per requirement of radio
Pakistan. I tried to follow the steps which I studied during my education and which was
mentioned by my senior during my internship for news writing. I also took part in editing of
news and learned different software which was addition in my technical skills. The most learning
exposure for me was collecting data and assisting script writer on writing script of above
mentioned topic Al though I cannot learn so many in such short period but I tried to take
exposure of maximum things.

17
CHAPTER 3
SWOT ANALYSIS

3.1 Strengthen:

 Combining news reporting with analytical strengths provided by the respected social and
political commentators in Pakistan, accounts for in depth and precise Current Affairs
programs.
 PBC provides round the clock news coverage from around the world in collaboration
with their partner news sources in more than 100 countries.
 PBC considered as a trustable channel which provide accurate information and that trust
give good market.
 It is a mass medium organization whose influence and credibility is recognized nationally
and internationally.
 It has never wavered from its commitment to report the news truthfully, accurately and
without prejudice.
 PBC is always working without being effected from environmental affects.
 PBC is the defender of cultural and ethical boundaries of society in electronic media
sector.

3.2 Weakness:

 Listeners faces major distraction from advertisement aired in between the show
 Long waiting queues to connect with them by calling
 Radio Jockeys had no long lasting career.
 Cannot criticize the government policies
 Political influence
 In competent staff
 PBC mostly used the old technology.
 Communication gap between departments.
 There is not a proper training facilitate to Internees.

18
 Need based trainings and outdoor visits should be conducted for official staff for their
mentally satisfaction and relaxation

3.3 Opportunity:

 Advertisement is a type of basic need for the corporations as increasing competition, so

PBC has opportunity to grasp these advertisements and increase competition.
 The opportunities are to expand globally, and add quality programs with slight change in
culture.
 Due to have strong networking PBC has opportunity to easily launched new services.
 PBC has opportunity to grasp these advertisement and increase competition.
 International growth potential due to the increasing community population across
worldwide. As population increasing so as migration of people from Pakistan to other
countries, and those foreigner are want to share and even learn our traditional rules or
culture they want a platform PBC have opportunity to provide this facility to them.

3.4 Threats:

 Continuous threat of imposition of penalties by PEMRA

 Turnover of old employees due to attractive packages offers by competitors is a big threat
for PBC.
 Low rate of advertisement offer to customers by competitors is also threats for PBC.
 Taxes on broadcasting sector are increasing day by day and that is destructive for the
PBC in shape of low profit.
 Large number of competitors in the sector is also a threat for an organization, and now a
day in television broadcasting sector there is a big market and it is difficult for PBC to
face the whole market.

19
CHAPTER 4
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
I had worked in various department of PBC by the grace of Allah and handwork of my
supervisor and other person, I have learned a lot of things related to the field of media. I am very
thankful to the University of Gujrat sub campus Rawalpindi, Mass Communication department
management and staff for giving me such high quality education which enables me, feel easy in
practical environment. Now I have the practical experience of the media sector and its
operations, so I can apply for the relevant job without hesitation.

My internship helped me to see the professional world but at the same time, there something
which I want to bring into the kind consideration of my noble organization. I felt it as a
newcomer and I hope that it will help in future prospect.

 There should be more powerful transmitter installed to cover at least for whole
Rawalpindi
 My internship was not paid, paid internship create a slight charm to the job as a internee
look for cherries on the cake in the beginning.
 There should be proper check on the intern and attendance register will do just fine
