Question
1. What do you think of the restoration approach? do you agree with it?
2. Using the modal auxilliaries along with sketches, write your best approach of
preservation for such buildings!

Building : castillo de matrera, torre de vilharigues

Response number 1
According to our group on restoration of both the building , the problems produced depends
from the perspective of each , this approach restoration also holds important to a old
buildings must be preserved .The restoration that is carried out also depends on how much
influence it has on the building both in terms of building design and building structure. When
viewed from the point of view of building design, this restoration approach will make the
shape of the building not as original as it used to be and can damage its identity as an ancient
building itself. But if this restoration approach is carried out it will discard the original
identity of the building, with a new identity for a building, this has both positive and negative
impacts. For the positive impact this creates will make a new face for an old building, with a
modernization approach with the presence of materials such as steel and glass, it makes the
acculturation of the two ages formed. But for the negative impact this results will make the
original form of the building disappear, thereby eliminating the authenticity / identity of the
building. In terms of the structure of the building, this is also good to be realized, especially
in old / ancient buildings, because it will not be too damaging in terms of design, but will
strengthen in terms of structure. This is a good thing to do because an old building has a high
level of fragility, so if it is not properly maintained, it will actually make the building even
more damaged. With the existence of structural restoration, it will make the building stronger,
where the restoration of the structural part does not really affect the design aspect, but will
strengthen the building instead.

So the opinion of our group regarding the restoration approach is "AGREE" depending on
what is the point of restoration and how much influence is generated for the building, if seen
from the two buildings it makes strengthening in terms of the structure for the building "torre
de vilharigues. "And for the building" Castillo de Matrera "is not very agreeable because it
improves in terms of design.

Response number 2
According to our group, a good restoration approach is that there are 2 ways if it can be
realized, namely restoration in terms of design and restoration in terms of structure.

For “building castillo de matrera”

For the restoration approach from a design perspective, according to our group the identity of
an old building is very important, especially in terms of the history produced by the building.
This time our group has a plan that is classified as possible to realize, namely by making the
design of the skeleton. With a framework that presents the original shape of the building
without having to add materials that make the building new again. Making the frame makes
the shape of the building visible and still has the historical value generated by the building.

For “Building torre de vilharigues”

For restoration carried out in terms of structure, according to our group, we maintain in terms
of design and supervision of the robustness of the building. That way we create an
approximate concept by adding a new structure with the same material as the building so it is
visible without damaging the building design. This keeps the building solid, from a visual
point of view it is a little bit, but the building is still maintained. So without having to add a
new building, this building should be given an additional structure that is strong.
