Friezes and Posters
Friezes and Posters
These are long illustrations which can be displayed at the top or bottom of the wall. They
are usually used to displayed language in context, e.g. a farm.
Friezes can also be used to illustrate songs and stories. The example below could be done
as an illustration to the song Old MacDonald Had a Farm.

Posters are useful visual resources. They are ready-made, you can make yourself or in
class as part of a group activity. You can exploit posters in the following ways:
a) pre-teach vocabulary or brainstorm the vocabulary if you want to revise it.
b) introduce the characters.
c) find something – a game in which the children discover objects or actions that fit into a
given category.
d) Total Physical Response (TPR) – children mime or act out a short sequence of actions.
e) true or false statements – children decide which, by reference to the poster.
f) children learn a short dialogue based on the scene in the poster.
