1- Always like a girl

a) Have a look at the screenshot.

What can you see? How old is
the girl? What is she doing?
How is she dressed?

b) What comes to your mind when hearing “like a girl”?

c) WATCH THE WHOLE VIDEO and circle the right answers.

These young people show what it means to run – eat – work – fight – throw – drive –

dance like a girl. To the youngest girl, run “like a girl” means run as smart – fast – high

as you can, whereas to the teenagers, it means run fast – energetically – slowly.

Using “like a girl” as an insult drops confidence – rises confidence – gives confidence

and makes the girls strong – weak. You should – shouldn’t – must be ashamed to be a

girl and be yourself – angry – satisfied.

d) WATCH THE VIDEO FROM 1:58 TO 2:37 and complete the script.

Director: What ………………………………… do you have to young girls who are told they run like

a girl, ……………………… like a girl, hit like a girl, swim like a girl?

Girl: Keep doing it ‘cause it’s working. If somebody else says that running like a girl or

kicking like a girl or ………………………………… like a girl is something that you

……………………………… be doing, that’s their problems. Because if you’re still scoring and

you’re still getting to the ………………… in time and you’re still being ………………………, you’re

doing it right, it doesn’t …………………………… what they say. I mean… Yes, I kick like a girl

and I swim like a girl and I walk like a girl and I ……………………………………… in the morning

like a girl, because I am a girl and that’s not something I should be …………………………………

of. So, I’m going to do it in that way. That’s what they ………………………… do.
