WHAT PHILOSOPHERS THINK ABOUT BEAUTY?

There are two most-debated views about beauty. Beauty can be objective or
subjective. St. Augustine, Plato, and Aristotle view beauty as objective while David
Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Francis Hutcheson view beauty as subjective. Beauty was
objective before 18th century because philosophers viewed it like it exist in the real world
and not in the mind and they have basis if a thing/person is beautiful or not. By the 18 th
century, however, philosophers based the beauty of something when it provides pleasure
or we can call it as subjective.

WHAT DID PSYCHOLOGY DISCOVER ABOUT BEAUTY?

Physically beautiful has a big impact to other people in many ways. It has impact in
Politics, choosing your partner, or in making money. Good looks can result to cognitive
bias and Halo effect.

Subtopic#3
HOW CULTURE TRADITIONS SHAPE BODY IMAGE

The cultural tradition can affect body image, including the environment in which we
are immersed in as well as our biological make up and genetic predisposition. The
cultural tradition in which we are surrounded by has a significant impact on how we feel
about ourselves and the manner in which we think about our body. Many cultural
traditions also contribute to body image and can influence either negative or positive
body image and self-esteem.

Subtopic #4
DOES YOUR BODY IMAGE HAVE AN IMPACT ON YOUR SELF ESTEEM?

Body image and self-esteem start in the mind, not in the mirror. We can change the
way we understand our value and worth. Healthy body image and self-esteem are a big
part of well-being. If we have a positive body image we will accept ourselves by the way
who we are and what we are.

HOW IMPORTANT IS PHYSICAL BEAUTY?

Physical beauty is extremely important. Beauty differ in the perspective of every


individual or it is subjective. We should not compare ourselves to other people because
we are unique in our own ways.
