Keeping io view the manufacturing and trade practives followed in the country in this field, the main modifications mace in this revision are as follows a) Twenty one new grades of stainless stee! has been incorporated into the standan: 1) Corresponding properties ofall the grades have been added in the standard; ©) Duplex stainless steel category has been included; and 4) Steel designation category based on qurneriesl symbol in line with International practices has been included. ‘This standard contains clauses which call for an agreement between the purchaser and the supplier. Such clauses are 4.2, §.2, 8:b,8.2, 9.0, 9.1.2, 10.5, Hl, 13.1, 14.1, 14.3, 18.8, 161, H7aly 18.1 and 20.1 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requicement ofthis stendacd is complicd with, he final value, observed or calculated, expressing the resul ofa testor analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960, ‘Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised)’. The number of significant places retained in the rounded oft value should be the seme as that ofthe specified value inthis standard 15 6918 : 2017 Indian Standard STAINLESS STEEL PLATE, SHEET AND STRIP — SPECIFICATION (Second Revision ) 1 SCOPE 1.1 This standard covers the requirements for stainless and commonly used heat resisting steel plate, sheet and strip, 1.2 The requirements of stainless ste! sheets and strips, for the manufacture of utensils have been covered in IS 5522 and IS 15997, 2 REFERENCES The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard, At the time of publication, the editions indicated wore valid, All standards are subject to revision and parties to agreements based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards, indicated below: ISNo. Title ne Method for chemical analysis of stel {issued in various pacts) 1500 (Part 1): Metallic materials — Brinell 2013 hardness test: Part | Test method (Yourth revision) 1501 (Part 1): Metallic materials — Vickers 2013 hardness test: Part 1 Test method fourth revision) 1586 (Part 1): Metallic materials — Rockwell 2012 hardness test: Part | Test method (Scales A, B,C, D, £, FG, HK, N, T) Youth revision) 1599:2012 Method for bend test (second revision) 1608: 2005 Tensile testing ofstcel products first revision) 1762 (Part 1): Code fordesignation of steels: Part 1 1974 Based on letter symbols (first revision) 1956 (Part 4) : Glossary of terms relating to iron ant 2013 steel: Part 4 steel sheet and strip 5522: 2014 Stainless stee! sheets and strips for utensils (second revision) 8910: 2010 General technical delivery require- rents for steel and steel products 1S No Tile 10175: 2012 Modified erichsen cupping test for metallic sheet and strip Method for determination of resistance to intergranular corrosion of austeniti stainless steel Corrosion tests in nti acid medium by measurement of loss in mass (Huey Test) Part 2 Copper sulphate, sulphuric acid lest (Monypemy Straus Test) Low nicke austenitic stainless steel sheet and strip for utensils and kitchen appliances — Specification loa6i (Part |) 1994 (Past 2): 1994 15997 2012 J TERMINOLOGY 3.1 For the purpose of this standard, the definitions given in IS 1956 (Part 4) shall apply, 4 SUPPLY OF MATERIAL 4.1 Gencral requirements relating fo the supply or material shall be in accordance with I$ 8910. 4.2 Steels covered by the standard shail be ordered and elivered on the basis of the following: a) Chemical composition; 'b) Chemical composition, and hartiness and / or bbend test in the annealed condition; ©) Chemical composition, hardness, tensile and bend test (when applicable) in the annealed condition; and ) Chemical composition and mechanical properties in any other condition as agreed to between the purchaser and the supplier, 4.3 Information to be Given by the Purchaser 43.1 Basis for Order White placing an order for the purchase of material covered by this standard, the purchaser should specify the following a) Designation of stainless steel; bb) Form (plate, sheet or strip); IS 6911: 2017 ©) Quantity {mass or number), 8) Nominal dimensions — thickness, width and length (for cut lengths); ©) Condition (hot rolled, cold rotled, annealed or any ather treatment); 1) Finish incase of ground/polished or any other special finish to specify whether finish is requiced on one or both surfaces) ) Method of manufacture, if any specified: h) Edge condition; 5) Test and test reports; k) Any other special requirements including end use; and 1m) Specific marking and packing requirements, ifany. § MANUFACTURE, 5.1 Unless otherwise agreed in order, the processes used in making the steel and the product are left to the discretion of the manufacturer.
